The Twisted Obsession

Chapter 309: More alike

The dim lighting of the club created an atmosphere of mystery and allure, the perfect setting for those who preferred to cloak their business in shadows. Remo sat at a secluded table in the VIP section, a glass of whiskey cradled in his hand. The ice clinked softly as he swirled the amber liquid, lost in thought. The music throbbed in the background, a steady beat that matched the pulse of the city outside, but it barely registered with him. His mind was elsewhere, circling around the complexities of his life and the secrets that seemed to grow darker with each passing day.

A sharp click of heels against the polished floor drew his attention, pulling him out of his reverie. He didn’t need to look up to know who it was; the scent of expensive perfume and the unmistakable aura of arrogance were enough. Nicole. She was the last person he wanted to see tonight, but he wasn’t surprised she had found him. She always had a way of appearing when he least wanted her around.

"Alone at last, Remo," Nicole’s voice was honeyed with mock concern as she slid into the seat opposite him. Her eyes sparkled with mischief, and her lips curled into a seductive smile. "A little bird told me the almighty Alfonso is drinking alone. Why? Trouble in paradise?"

Remo didn’t bother to mask his irritation, taking a long sip of his whiskey instead. "Go away, Nicole. I’m not in the mood for your games tonight."

"Oh, come on," she purred, leaning forward so that her low-cut dress revealed just enough to capture any man’s attention. But Remo didn’t bite. He was used to her tactics. "Can’t a girl have a little fun? Or are you sulking because you found out the kind of monster you married?"

His grip on the glass tightened imperceptibly, but he kept his expression neutral. "Leave my wife out of this."

Nicole’s laughter was light and airy, as if he’d said something amusing. She reached out to trace the rim of his glass with a perfectly manicured finger. "Oh, I struck a nerve, didn’t I? Poor Remo, caught between duty and desire. But you know, darling, she might be perfect for your dark, twisted side. Maybe that’s why you’re so drawn to her."

Remo’s eyes flicked up to meet hers, sharp and probing. "What are you talking about?"

Nicole smirked, a glimmer of satisfaction flashing in her eyes. "You know she’s not the only one with secrets, Remo. Surely you didn’t think you could keep yours buried forever?"

His frown deepened, suspicion creeping into his thoughts. "What secrets?"

Nicole’s laugh was soft, teasing. She leaned in closer, her lips dangerously close to his ear. "Oh, come now, Remo. We both know there’s more to you than meets the eye. Your little wife isn’t the only one with blood on her hands."
