The Twisted Obsession

Chapter 290: Found out

The sky was overcast, a fitting backdrop for the somber occasion. Abby stood at the edge of her father’s grave, the freshly turned earth still dark and moist. Her shoulders were slumped, and her usually composed demeanor was shattered, reflected in the way she clutched her coat tightly around her. Large sunglasses obscured her eyes, but Cage could sense the depth of her grief and exhaustion.

Cage had been surprised when he received Abby’s call. After their last encounter, he hadn’t heard from her, and he’d assumed she wanted nothing more to do with him. Yet here he was, standing beside her at her parents grave, feeling a mixture of sadness and confusion. He glanced at Abby, noting the tension in her posture.

As they stood in silence, Abby’s soft voice broke through the stillness. "He found out the truth," she whispered, barely audible over the whispering wind.

Cage’s eyes widened in surprise. He knew exactly what Abby was referring to. "H-how?" he stammered, his mind racing with possibilities.

Abby sighed deeply, her breath visible in the cold air. "An acquaintance told him. She had proof and everything. I didn’t have the strength to deny it." Her voice trembled slightly, betraying the emotions she was struggling to keep in check.

"Abby..." Cage started, but she cut him off with a wave of her hand.

"He said he needed space for a while to process the truth," Abby continued, her voice breaking. "I understand, but it doesn’t make it any easier."

Cage felt a pang of sympathy for her. He knew how much she cared about Remo, how hard she had worked to build a life with him. The revelation of her past must have hit him like a ton of bricks. He reached out, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder.

"I’m so sorry, Abby," Cage said softly. "I know how much this must hurt."
