Chapter 271: A visit
Abby took a deep breath as she approached the entrance of the mental hospital, the heavy metal door looming ahead of her like a gate to another world. Fredrick walked behind her, his presence a steady reassurance. The stark, sterile smell of disinfectant hit her as they stepped inside, the harsh fluorescent lights casting an unforgiving glare on the white walls. Each step echoed ominously, amplifying her anticipation and resolve.
They walked down a long corridor, passing rooms with small windows, each revealing glimpses of patients in various states of disarray. Abby’s heart pounded in her chest, a mix of anticipation and resolve driving her forward. She had waited for this moment for so long, and now it was finally here.
Finally, they reached the room where Margaret was being held. Abby peered through the small window in the door, her eyes narrowing as she saw the woman inside. Margaret looked dreadful—her once perfectly coiffed hair now a tangled mess, her eyes wild and bloodshot. She was pacing back and forth, muttering to herself.
Abby pushed open the door and stepped inside, Fredrick following closely behind. Margaret stopped in her tracks, her eyes locking onto Abby with a mixture of recognition and rage.
"You!" Margaret screamed, her voice hoarse and filled with venom. "What are you doing here?"
Abby smiled, a cold, satisfied smile that didn’t reach her eyes. She signaled to the doctor standing by the door, who quickly moved to give Margaret a shot. The sedative took effect almost immediately, and Margaret’s frantic movements slowed, her eyes focusing as she saw Fredrick for the first time.
"Fredrick," Margaret gasped, her voice tinged with shock. "What are you doing with Abby?"
Fredrick stared at her, his face devoid of any warmth or affection. In fact, he looked disgusted. "Margaret," he said coldly.
Abby chuckled, the sound icy and mocking. "Oh, you’re really slow, aren’t you? Still haven’t figured it out?"
