Chapter 198: Through a man’s heart
Abby descended the stairs to find Sophia waiting for her in the living room, her warm smile a stark contrast to Abby’s inner turmoil. "Hey, how are you feeling?" Sophia asked, her concern evident in her voice.
Abby forced a small smile, grateful for Sophia’s presence. "I’m hanging in there," she replied, her voice tinged with a hint of exhaustion.
Sophia nodded understandingly. "Well, how about we go out for some coffee? A change of scenery might do you good," she suggested, her eyes bright with enthusiasm.
Abby hesitated for a moment, considering Sophia’s offer. The idea of stepping outside, even just for a little while, seemed daunting. But she knew that she couldn’t stay cooped up in the house forever, drowning in her own thoughts.
"Okay, coffee sounds good," Abby agreed.
As they prepared to leave, Abby made a quick detour to inform Olivia, the bodyguard assigned to protect her. Despite her best efforts, Abby found it difficult to break through Olivia’s stoic demeanor. She was always so cold and aloof, focused solely on her duty of protecting Abby.
Maybe, Abby thought as she made her way back to Sophia, coffee would be a good opportunity to try to get to know Olivia better.
As Abby and Sophia stepped out of the car , the cool breeze brushed against their faces, bringing a sense of freshness to the air.
As they made their way to the coffee shop, Abby stole glances at Olivia, who walked a few steps behind them, her eyes scanning their surroundings with a vigilant intensity. Despite her attempts at conversation, Olivia remained aloof, her responses curt and guarded.
Abby sighed inwardly, feeling frustrated by the distance between them. She couldn’t shake the feeling that Olivia saw her as nothing more than a job, a duty to be fulfilled rather than a person to be protected.
But as they entered the coffee shop and settled into a cozy corner booth, Abby turned to Olivia, "would you like to join us for coffee?" she asked, her voice gentle yet earnest.
