Chapter 124: Difficult news
As Remo sat in the sterile waiting room of the hospital, his mind was a whirlwind of fear, regret, and desperation. Every passing moment felt like an eternity, each ticking second amplifying his anxiety to unbearable levels.
His heart felt heavy with regret, a crushing weight that threatened to suffocate him. He couldn’t shake the feeling that he had failed Abby, that he hadn’t done enough to protect her. The memory of her pale, lifeless form in his arms haunted him, filling him with an overwhelming sense of guilt.
Regret gnawed at him like a relentless beast, tearing at his insides with claws of remorse. He wished he had been more attentive, more vigilant, more present in Abby’s life. He wished he had told her how much she meant to him, how much he cared for her, before it was too late.
Fear gripped him in its icy embrace, sending shivers down his spine with each passing moment. The thought of losing Abby, of never seeing her smile again, filled him with a bone-deep terror that threatened to consume him whole.
He couldn’t bear the thought of a future without her, of facing the world alone, without the love and warmth she brought into his life. The mere idea of it sent a chill down his spine, leaving him trembling with dread.
But amidst the fear and regret, there was a flicker of hope, a tiny ember of faith that refused to be extinguished. He prayed with every fiber of his being that Abby would pull through, that she would defy the odds and come back to him, safe and sound.
And as he waited anxiously for news from the doctors, Remo clung to that hope with all his might, willing it to guide Abby back to him, where she belonged. For in that moment, amidst the uncertainty and despair, it was all he had to hold onto.
Remo’s mind raced with questions and self-doubt as he grappled with the realization that Abby had attempted to take her own life. The shock of the revelation hit him like a physical blow, leaving him reeling with confusion and despair.
He couldn’t comprehend why Abby would resort to such drastic measures, especially after their seemingly normal interaction earlier that morning. Had he missed some subtle sign of her distress? Had he failed to see the pain hidden behind her smiles?
The thought that Abby could harbor such deep-seated hatred towards him cut him to the core. He couldn’t fathom how she could despise him so much that she would choose death over life with him. It was a bitter pill to swallow, one that left a bitter taste in his mouth and a knot of anguish in his chest.
Remo’s thoughts churned with self-recrimination as he replayed their recent interactions in his mind, searching for clues, for any hint of the turmoil that must have been raging beneath the surface. But try as he might, he couldn’t shake the feeling that he had failed her, that he had somehow let her down when she needed him the most.
