Chapter 119: Sorry
Remo quietly opened Abby’s door, the soft sound of her muffled sobs echoed in the darkness, sending a pang of pain straight to his heart. He stepped into the room and closed the door behind him, the soft click barely audible in the stillness of the night.
Approaching her bed, he could see Abby curled up in a ball, her body shaking with the force of her tears. Without a word, Remo laid down beside her and gently wrapped his arms around her trembling form, pulling her close in a tight embrace.
Abby’s sobs grew louder at his touch, her tears soaking into the fabric of his shirt as she buried her face against his chest. For a long moment, they remained like that, wrapped in each other’s arms, the only sound in the room the hitching of Abby’s breath.
When Abby’s tears finally began to subside, she pulled away slightly, her eyes red and swollen from crying. She looked up at Remo with a mixture of sorrow and remorse, her voice choked with emotion as she spoke.
"I’m sorry, Remo," she whispered, her words barely more than a hoarse whisper. "I didn’t mean what I said earlier. I was just... angry and hurt, and I lashed out without thinking."
Remo’s heart ached at the pain in her voice, the raw vulnerability shining in her eyes. Gently brushing a strand of hair away from her face, he met her gaze with understanding and compassion.
"It’s okay, Abby," he murmured, his voice soft and soothing. "I know you didn’t mean it. We’ve both been through so much, and sometimes it’s hard to see past the pain."
Abby nodded, her shoulders sagging with exhaustion as the weight of her emotions threatened to overwhelm her. Leaning into Remo’s embrace once more, she allowed herself to find solace in his presence, grateful for the warmth and comfort he offered.
As they lay together in the darkness, the quiet rhythm of their breathing slowly syncing in harmony, Abby felt a sense of peace settle over her and fell asleep due to exhaustion.
