Bride To His Darkness

Chapter 359: Stalling For Time

"Welcome back, did I take too long?" Carmela smiled as Marius rose from the symbol he was sitting on, and there was not a hint of smile on his stupid face. All the stitches in his body began to heal, their marks fading from sight, and he was anew, looking nothing like a body that had been decapitated weeks ago.

He cracked his neck, adjusting his bones in the right places, and when he breathed out a relieved sigh, a smile broke on his pale lips. His pitch-black eyes settled on Carmela who was standing meters away from the symbol, and beside her was Draven, who looked regularly composed.

His gaze darted to the frightened coven members who bristled back upon having him summoned, and the smile on his lips twitched. He looked down at his hands and balled them into fist.

"How many years?"

"It’s barely been a month, Marius." Carmela answered, and one of her coven members handed her a robe which she carefully draped around Marius, "were you planning to stay in that slumber of yours for another hundred years or more?

"Do you have her?" He asked, ignoring her question, and that ruined Carmela’s smile, as if she had heard something sour. She knew exactly who he was referring to as ’her’ but she managed to tame her anger and answered as politely as she could.

"No, I don’t." She stepped back when she was done attending to him, "I was too busy putting you together to bother about some human orb. But you’re here now, I’m sure you won’t have trouble getting her back, since all you need to do is do what you’ve always done with her, mess with her head a little and she’s back here."

"Don’t forget that Ivan must be on the lookout already," Draven began, joining the conversation, "I tell you, they must have figured the whole thing out and are probably out there searching for the both of you. I gave you the book cause you requested it, and I did exactly as you wanted me to do, but I’d hate to get meddled any further in this onslaught. I’d like to return now, if you don’t mind."

"It is true, you’ve done your part, and that I must applaud." Marius agreed with an understanding nod, and he approached Draven. "Thanks to your interference, I’m able to stand on my two feet again, and I can finally... get my revenge on those meddling vampires who did this to me. From today, your services won’t be needed, Lord Draven."
