Bride To His Darkness

Chapter 314: His Advantage

The echoes of her hurried footstep resonated through the quiet night as Samantha abandoned her escape route. She fled the ship’s port without thinking twice, the adrenaline-fueled sprint drowning out the distant sounds of the ship’s departure. She no longer cared if the hood of her cloak veiled her appearance or not– that man had clearly seen right through it!!

All her mind could focus on presently was running away from those nightmarish eyes that seemed to have spotted her, despite her invisibility. She kept running without daring to look back, her breathing becoming more and more shallow as she navigated the quiet passage. She hadn’t pictured which route she was taking and simply followed the ones her legs led her through, and only when the distant sounds of fireworks echoed within the vicinity, did she come to the realization that she had strayed away from the crowd.

That was a good thing right? The guards on patrol won’t be able to find her here.

In the aftermath of her escape, Samantha’s trembling hands clutched at the fabric of her cloak. The port had long disappeared from her view, but the fear of whom she had seen still lingered heavily in her heart. Everything about that man made her insides shiver like a haunting nightmare, and what she felt was far worse in comparison to how she had felt being Ivan’s captive.

Ivan was no longer the devil in her story, but a totally different being who won’t leave her alone.

Catching her breath, Samantha sank to her knees when they wouldn’t stop quivering, and the thought of the ship leaving without her almost brought tears to her eyes. She was so close! So close to finally escaping from this confusing land but... no matter what she does, there was always an obstacle waiting ahead to make a mockery of her. For once, if things could actually go her way, she would be satisfied, just once she wanted things to happen her way, but what was the use now?

What wrong could she possibly have done to suffer like this?? The earlier joy in her heart had been simultaneously crushed once again, and the painful part about all of this is the fact that there is absolutely nothing she can do to make it stop.

"Why does this keep happening to me?" She whispered in a trembling voice, as if fighting back the lump in her throat.

Overwhelmed by her own failures, she clutched the side of her head with both palms, seriously wondering if her life was jinxed.
