Bride To His Darkness

Chapter 309: Can Viney Eat Him Too?

Samantha took a cautious step back as the guard drew out his gigantic sword. Her heart pounded as Brian swiftly grabbed her wrist so they could run in the opposite direction, but they were forced to stop when another guard emerged from the shadows, blocking their path.

Their armors gleamed in the dim light, and their eyes glinted menacingly as they sized Samantha’s features from head to toe. One of the guards signaled to his partner using his hands, and Samantha understood the prospect of what was about to happen– they were deliberately taken note of her features to confirm if she was the lady Carmela had ordered them to find, and it was already too late coming up with a solution cause they seemed to have hit the realization.

"You never learn, Brian. Always choosing to side against the orders of the Queen." Said a guard as he pointed his blade at the face of Brian, "I could end you right here and the Queen will be grateful that I found a reason to get rid of you on her behalf. If you don’t want to bring trouble to you and your pathetic people, surrender the girl to us, and we might let you walk away with your limbs still intact." He threatened with a gruff voice, but Brian refused to yield to their command, whilst keeping Samantha under his coverage.

"I guess you’ve made up your mind, and to think you had the chance of winning back the Queen’s favor." The air crackled with tension as the guards closed in, their swords poised to strike. Samantha’s mind raced as she turned her back to Brian, whilst searching for an escape route that eluded them like a fleeting dream. Trapped and cornered, their options dwindled like the fading stars above.

"Uhm... is there a chance you can fight?" Asked Brian as he took a stance, and Samantha didn’t have the strength to answer such an obvious question. If she knew how, she certainly wouldn’t be this frightened.

When the two guards lunged at the same time with their swords brandished, Brian was quick to evade the fatal strike and swiftly sent a punch to the guard in front of him. Samantha wisely summoned her vines from under the earth, whilst they trapped the incoming guard’s leg in one quick swoop, leading him to trip and fall. When he made attempts to rise, clearly angered by her actions, several sharp thorns immediately adorned the vines, piercing through his armored leg and coming in contact with the guard’s skin.

Samantha barely knew what she was doing, but she didn’t mind as long as it worked in her favor. She made a promise that she was going to get stronger no matter what, and that is exactly what she was going to do.

A cry of agony escaped the guard’s lips, echoing deeply through his helmet, but to Samantha’s shock, he used his blade to cut through the vines and was up on his staggering feet. When he lunged another attack, which was fiercer than the last, Samantha quickly covered her head with the hood, concealing her appearance and narrowly escaping the touch of his blade. Her sudden disappearance left the guard dazed, as his sword swiped through thin air.

However, Samantha had only evaded his blade before it could touch her, and she was grateful for the cloak that made her invisible to their gazes.
