Bride To His Darkness

Chapter 298: Implications Of The Prophecy

As night descended, Samantha took her seat on a wooden bench that was situated just outside the elderly elf’s home. The night sky sparkled with stars, and the distant laughter of elves filled the air, echoing through the enchanted glade– it made Samantha wonder if other places in the southern Kingdom were this welcoming... or was it just them? Being here and receiving such conviviality from the elven clan, she wouldn’t want a war to break in and destroy the happiness that had been built here.

In front of her, the quaint cobblestone path bustled with elfin activities. Some elves strolled by, wrapped in richly colored cloaks that billowed in the wind. A few paused to exchange warm greetings– some were couples, others were childrens and teens who had approached her nicely, curious to know about where she came from, or if she was a fairy that had visited their little village to bless them. They waved her goodbye when Elara and Brian approached from a corner, and with them was a wise elder dressed in white robe, whilst his long white beards flowed like waterfall down to his knee.

From his appearance, Samantha knew he had to be someone of great speciality in the elven clan.

"Here, have this." Elara handed Samantha a steaming mug, its aroma a comforting blend of herbal and spice. "It’s a traditional elven brew to ward off the chill, you will feel better afterwards." She said with a twinkle in her eyes, subtly taking note of how the girl shivered slightly in the depths of her cloak.

Accepting the mug with a hearty thank you, Samantha took a big sip, the warmth of the beverage seeping into her cool bone. She felt more relaxed than before, and her shoulders eased as the herbal tea did its magic.

"This is delightful!" Samantha complimented, and when her gaze drifted to the old elf man who watched her whimsically, she quickly rose from her seat and lowered her head in a polite bow. She had been tranced by the beverage that she forgot her manners.

"Greetings!" She greeted the elderly man who acknowledged her being with a curt nod.

"Let us all have our seats." Elara gestured towards the vacant bench, beckoning everyone to take their seat which they did. Sitting at the other bench with the elder elf, Brian was made to sit with Samantha, and although his mind knew that his actions were inappropriate, he couldn’t resist stealing glances her way. The thought of her already married was a constant reminder that made him know where his limits lied– although, a Fae and a vampire? This is the first time he’s hearing of such a union.

"This is the chief of our Clan." Elara introduced the beard elf to Samantha, "you are free to say or ask whatever is needed from him. From what you told us concerning Queen Carmela, the abduction on her part had been an assumption, but after listening to the story from your side, it is clear that Carmela intends on feeding the blood of innocent lives to the people. Brian here had confirmed it before, but we did not believe him until now." Elara’s eyes held a hint of regret and remorse, and Samantha had stopped drinking the beverage.

"Feeding blood? What do you mean she’s feeding the blood of innocent lives? I don’t understand." Samantha happened to grasp the vague meaning behind that phrase, but she didn’t want to believe such a disgusting act was happening right under the people’s noses. Brian leaned back, arms crossed, and he pursed his lips before explaining,
