Chapter 285: What Is Your Relationship With The Queen?
The news about the missing Queen had reached the ears of the citizens, and it elicited a moment of panic on the people who knew her personally, including those who had admired her from afar. The town square buzzed with worried whispers that night, and concerned faces turned to each other, questioning the whereabouts of their new Queen. It hadn’t been long since she got crowned and they were about to lose her so soon?
Fueled by concern, the citizens had formed their own search parties, combing every inch of the kingdom to find their new beloved Queen who was rumored to be abducted by the witches from the south.
Inside the grand Palace, amidst the chaos, Lady Phyna found a moment alone in the dimly lit corridor. The weight of the responsibility and the uncertainty of the new Queen’s fate, gnawed at her composure. In a hushed voice, she muttered to herself,
"Perhaps, she wasn’t fit to be Queen after all, and now she’s probably run off, leaving us to deal with the mess." Her lips tightened, her condescending words lingering in the air.
Unknown to Lady Phyna, the worried Lucy was trailing behind her, her thoughts clouded by her friend’s mysterious disappearance from the Palace. In her moment of worry, she overheard the disloyal murmurs coming from Lady Phyna herself, and hearing someone, who was supposed to support her friend speak ill of her, and in a tensed moment like this infuriated Lucy, and before she could tame her anger, she had stormed towards the Lady Phyna, startling the vampiress with her presence.
"It’s you!"
"Who do you think you are to question the worthiness of our Queen? Especially in her absence?" Lucy spat, the anger in her tone, evident. "You know nothing of her struggles and sacrifices, don’t be so quick to judge when you’ve only known her for a few hours, compared to the days you were meant to spend with her. If you think she’s not worthy, you clearly don’t know the strength and grace she brought to this kingdom."
"I– you, I didn’t–" caught off guard, Phyna stammered on her phrase, unsure of how to place her sentence more appropriately, but Lucy shut her up with a fierce glare.
"Save your excuses," she clipped, "if you have any strong doubts about our Queen, swallow them and keep them to yourself. Don’t spill poison on the wrong side of the territory. As you can see, His Majesty is working day and night to find his Queen, and if words like yours gets out, you’ll be tied in the punishment room, and there are series of torture awaiting people with attitudes as spineless as yours."
