Chapter 65: The Difference Between Us
Standing to her full height and turning around to look at Ivan who approached the nightstand where she stood, his steely gaze drifted to the parchment on the floor, and then he pursed his lips. The first thing that occurred to Samantha would be his incoming scolding, he would, without a doubt punish her for snooping around this time as she had already been warned earlier, but rather, to Samantha’s surprise, he picked the parchment from the floor and glanced through the calligraphy himself.
When he rolled it down, his eyes met her green eyes that held an obvious question, but he said nothing concerning the parchment and quietly turned to leave the room.
"Why do you have a list of those slave establishments?" The question in her eyes had left her mouth before he could take a step further to the door, and Ivan’s feet stopped in its tracks as he looked over his shoulder, but not directly at her.
"For royal business."
"Royal business?" Samantha came to stand in front of Ivan who arched a brow at the young woman. Despite the intimidating look in his glaring eyes, Samantha mustered up the courage to ask.
"Can I see the list one last time, a quick check, please, it’s important I–"
"No." He outrightly turned down her request and walked past the young woman, not sparing her a single glance, but Samantha refused to let him leave as she blocked his path for the second time. He noticed the glimmer of hope that reflected in her Jade green eyes as she met his indifferent stare.
"What are you doing?"
"My brother," she uttered, her voice breaking slightly as she shifted gazes from the parchment to Ivan. "Can I have just a glance at the parchment? My brother, he has to be among those establishments, I promise I won’t bother you but I ... .the slave establishment I was once held in, it had two circular digits beside the names, the ones for male had one circular digits. If you can let me see the location then I...."
