Chapter 261: A Sacrifice
It hadn’t been up to a month since Jeremy planned on sucking her dry to the bone. Her body needed all the physical and mental energy it could possibly get to create the barrier, but due to the situation at hand, Madeline couldn’t take the idea of risking it. Watching her blood flow around the crevasses that formed a big red circle around her, Madeline’s heart drummed continuously, and her body shuddered as everything was happening too fast for her mind to fully grasp exactly what she needed to do.
She let out a shaky breath and withdrew her hand from the crevasses.
"Are you okay?" Monica’s eyes held genuine worry as she watched Madeline struggle to stand up on her two feet, and she smiled faintly at Monica who was still worried about the injury on her palm. "There’s.... There’s no time, what do I do next?" She returned her determined attention to Napoleon who’s eyes gazed up at the dark cloud. The slight rumbling in the sky made his eyebrow crease into a frown, and then he said. "Indeed there isn’t, you must begin now. This is all up to you."
"Take it slowly." Monica coolly advised, "if you rush, it could weaken your strength. I suggest you.... Ah!!" Monica hadn’t completed her statement when a sharp pain shot through her heart to every other part of her body, and her eyes bulged from their sockets.
"Monica!"
"Don’t step out of the circle!" Napoleon’s warning tone reached Madeline’s ears, and Madeline halted before her feet could leave the circle. She looked at Napoleon, "what’s wrong with Monica?"
The panicked Madeline looked at Monica who dropped to the ground on all fours. Her body shuddered immensely as her fist balled on the ground, but before Madeline could ask her what happened, Monica’s light sobs suddenly stopped.
She remained in her position whilst her hair covered her face. To Madeline and Napoleon’s horror, a thread of black vein spread like branches against the skin of Monica, and when she lifted her head up, her eyes had turned pitch black.
