The Baroness Misbehaves

Chapter 206: Elian’s Story (1)

"I’ll tell it to you as a story." Elian began in a soft tone as he grabbed a chair from his study table, taking his seat. Inna sat at the edge of the bed, placing one of his pillows on her thighs as she looked more than ready to listen to Elian’s story.

"I like stories."

"Well I’m awful at telling them so don’t expect anything fantastic." Elian thought it’d be best to advise her beforehand, but the young lady was barely shakened, her brown eyes glimmering with endless curiosity.

"I’ll try not to."

Sitting back, Elian remained quiet for almost a minute, as though he was building up the energy he needed to dive into his traumatic past, and only after he let out a deep breath did he finally begin.

"There was once a lovely woman who got married to a king and lived in the luxury of the palace, their lives were going exactly the way they had hoped for. A happy marriage was what they had, and a happy marriage led to the new Queen giving birth to twins who unfortunately, were abducted by night creatures known as the vampires. They were the first children of the King, so they had many responsibilities weighing on them as a child. You could say the twins were inseparable as they grew up, they did a lot of things together, but one of the twins felt hassled by how everything in his life was centered in the palace alone. Even at his displeasure, he foolishly kept quiet and did what he could for the people."

"What... What are the names of these twins?" Inna asked with urgency laced to her tone, her mind racing at the news of The king’s missing children that were labeled dead a long time ago when there was not a single sight of them.

"You and Elijah are..." her eyes widened in disbelief, "the two of you are the lost PRINCE’S??!!!!" She nearly screamed it out from shock, but had managed to keep her tone down when Elian signaled with his hands for her to keep calm.

"Not anymore, we no longer hold such titles, I’m just Elian, and he’s... Elijah."

Inna grew speechless as she froze at her spot, she could barely blink as the confession stung her straight to her spine, and Elian continued, bringing the tone of his voice down a little like he wanted nobody else to hear him make this difficult journey to the past.

"The grand bonnet house used to be our great Grandfather’s traditional home, and after his death, it was part of the royal family tradition to pay the bonnet estate our respect when the auspicious day arrived. We were only seven at that time, and Elijah was adamant on not going. He never wanted to go, and I was more of the silent one who readily obeyed our Father without complaint."

He paused, trying to gather his thoughts, "Elijah remained persistent, he didn’t believe paying respect to the dead would bring him any luck, he labeled it as blasphemy, he spoke his mind without caring about the daring consequences, and I admired him for that. Our late mother was the only one who was capable of convincing Elijah to go at that time, and I regret never raising my voice to speak that day, cause if we hadn’t gone there, we wouldn’t be victims to these circumstances."
