Chapter 168: Exposed (1)
Alaric, who was informed about the Fiend invading his palace, smirked at the outcome of his plan coming into place. To avoid putting his people into distress, Alaric had to cut the evening short by using his father’s health condition as an excuse to end the charity ball.
As confused as his guests were, and those of the council who were waiting to have a private conversation with him regarding the question he had asked during the gathering they had, they knew there was no way to go ahead with the conversation once His Majesty had made the decision to end the night, and by ending the event means ending everything else they had to offer tonight.
"Are you sure about this?" Theresa asked her husband with concern displaying in her eyes, and Alaric, who stood at the top of long stairs watching the guest exit the building, exhaled through his nostril before standing straight, his arms folded behind his back.
"If we can’t find the missing people, then it is my duty to catch the creatures responsible for it." His tone sounded stern, "I had to take a huge risk by using my own people as a way to lure them here, and thankfully none of them had been victimized. The guards will escort them back to their carriages so they can leave peacefully, and for your safety, I need you to stay with Father until I return."
He looked at his wife, "I need to see the person responsible for creating this chaos in the first place, and it’s about time we get to the bottom of it." Something severe flashed in his eyes, "same time, I still believe my brothers aren’t dead, their disappearance must have something to do with the missing people case, and until I see who is responsible for abducting my brothers all those years ago, I won’t stop."
"Alaric..."
"Take her inside." He ordered the guards who were patiently waiting for him, and at his firm order, the guards hurried to Queen Theresa, escorting her back to her Chambers.
Taking a deep breath, Alaric got rid of his cape and went down the stairs. His trusted guard who was waiting for him and staying on guard at the end of the stairs, quietly followed Alaric when he made his way to the hallway.

"The hell!!" Cassian’s attention got sidetracked when he made it to the empty hallway, but upon reaching the dim-lit hallway, Cassian’s eyes widened slightly, a bit struck at the sight of two Elian facing each other as one of them threw the second one against the wall of a building, brutally breaking through the wall and entering another room that looked no different from the hallway.
Clouds of dust filled the area, and Cassian took off his mask, staring at the destruction before him. The broken window, a shattered wall, broken tables and glass pieces scattered on the ground.
"Elijah!" Out of instinct, Cassian called the name of Elijah as his presence was sensed, and the young vampire who wanted to go after the one he had thrown against the wall, halted in his steps, and as though amused, a slow smile curved his lips, and he turned to look at the young lad who remained rooted at his spot, watching the scene that was displayed for his eyes to see.
