The Baroness Misbehaves

Chapter 107: Questions & Accusations (2)

"Did you..!!!.." Cassian’s voice trailed off as his expression turned aghast. The corny smile on Elijah’s lips broadened, revealing his fangs as he fancied the look of disbelief on the young lad’s face. He felt this unexplainable thrill watching the guilt that envisioned his features, and it was one he didn’t want to see end just yet.

"He had it coming." Saying this so nonchalantly, Elijah drew out one of his twin blades, running his fingers lightly through the extreme sharp edges. "Geoffrey knew the consequences for revealing what he shouldn’t, death awaited him, but you see humans never listen, and that is what I don’t understand about them." He sighed. "I used his own invention to send him to the grave, and I gave him the easiest, painless death by stabbing him straight in the heart. Wasn’t I kind enough?"

The sarcastic smile on his lips faded as though it was never even there. "If I knew he snitched this much, I would have decapitated all of his limbs and turned them into useful firewood, tsk! His blood wasn’t that tasty anyway."

"Why are you telling me this?" As disgusted as Cassian was to hear this, there was a nagging feeling that told him Elijah wasn’t just speaking for show-off, and it turns out he was right.

"Take a quick guess, it’s because I want you to be aware of what you’re up against." He snapped his fingers, letting the echoes ring around the silent street. "Geoffrey revealed what he knew, but unfortunately for you, you can’t tell anyone without having enough proof as it is required for your job. No one will believe we exist since we haven’t left even a trail of blood for them to follow, and if you stupidly try to expose yourself, you’ll be dead meat."

Elijah’s tone came off as a warning. "If you don’t want to be a part of us, then keep your mouth shut about what you know, stay away from our business and nobody will be harmed. If you keep trying to discover secrets you can’t handle, then you won’t survive it. I advise you to give up, and like every other lame detective that tried to solve this case, tell your fucking authorities that you failed, else you will join the Baron and poor Williams in their grave."

Cassian’s blood ran cold at the mention of William’s and Madeleine’s father. He was waiting for Elijah to say more, but the vampire remained quiet as he turned away.

Looking up, the day was starting to brighten bit by bit, and Elijah let out a soft hiss as he took cover in the shadows.

"This calls for my exit." Ignoring the mute vampire, Elijah turned to take his leave when something made him halt in his steps, and he turned around to look at Cassian. "If you interrupt my hunt another time, you won’t get away so easily, I will be taking bites out of your limbs instead."

With those words being said, he disappeared into the darkness of the Alleyway, and Cassian was left alone in the empty street.
