The Baroness Misbehaves

Chapter 76: Need For Comfort (2)

"How do you feel?" Madeline waved a hand at his face in case he saw anything different, a look of aspiration gleaming in her eyes. "Can you see anything? Even a shadow or something?" She asked while continuously waving her hand at his handsome face, but Cassian remained mute as he sat on the bed, weakening Madeline’s confidence.

"This means you still can’t see a thing?" He sensed the hope in her voice that was about to be crushed by his ’no’ response, but he gave a lopsided grin while grabbing hold of her wrist, stopping her from continuously waving her hand at his face.

"Stop, or you’ll make me feel dizzy." He responded with a sigh as though he had grown tired of keeping her on edge, and Madeline’s expression perked up instantly when he made mention of going dizzy. If he can’t see her hand move then how can he go dizzy from it??

"You can see??" She asked with her eyes open_wide, and he was a bit reluctant to say yes. "It’s more vague than you think."

"Don’t be a damp squib, it’s an improvement!" She grinned and waved her hands in front of his face again, his Amber-brown eyes followed it slightly as it moved left and right as though he was getting bored seeing it move like that, and she let out a glee sound.

"The eyedrop must be doing a good job cleansing the paste of your eyes. I’m so happy!" She clapped her hands excitedly before moving away from his line of sight to go get the blindfold.

"You have to cover your eyes now. Your vision still needs to settle and I’m certain you’ll be able to see before the celebration your mother is working so hard to put for us." She said, but when she tried to cover his eyes, he resisted and moved his head back, to her surprise.

"What now?" She questioned when he refused to let her cover his eyes. "You need to cover your eyes so it can heal faster. The physician made it clear to me....."

"Aren’t you bothered by what I did yesterday?" He asked, cutting Madeline’s response short as she brought her hands down.

"What?" She blinked at him, and he took a deep breath. "What I did to you in the corridor. It must be bothering you, yet you’re not making any move to ask me about it." To be honest, it disturbed his mind to hear her speak like everything was fine even knowing fully well that what he did to her was beyond normal.

He had tried to come up with ways on how to apologize, but when she wasn’t bringing up the topic and speaking so freely, it didn’t settle well with him.
