Chapter 36: The Interrogation (1)
"I’ve been away for a whole two days to avoid the family drama" Isabella commented as she dropped her cup of warm tea on the table with a click sound. "But then, I fail to realize that the drama in this house never ends."
Sitting quietly in the living room with Juliana, Isabella couldn’t stop herself from bringing up a conversation, most especially after everything that has happened after her return. The Duke hasn’t been around lately, and yet so much drama has happened in just one day.
Isabella looks at her mother-in-law, still taken aback by the news of Lord Cassian being married. She hadn’t been able to digest that news properly, and then the next thing she witnesses is a weird looking man who claims to have bought his wife first from her family.
"Who exactly is that girl? What family is she from?" Isabella was insistent on satisfying her curiosity.
Juliana’s gaze hardened when Isabella refused to stop irritating her with her neverending questions. Noticing the warning glares sent her way, Isabella immediately zipped her lips and quietly sipped her cup of tea while carrying the saucer. It was best to not offend her mother-in-law before she gets angrily devoured by her.
Lady Isabella was one of the beautiful daughters from the Earl family. The third honorable peerage before theirs.
Her marriage was decently arranged with Juliana’s first son, Abbot. It was a peaceful alliance that went really well and the marriage celebration was an extremely grand one too. Unfortunately, people seem to remember only the worst since Cassian decided to display his mischievous talent by getting the priest drunk at the church venue.
Infact, Juliana was starting to think Cassian did them a huge favor back then, because if she had stopped the wedding there and then after the incident, she wouldn’t have to put up with Isabella’s chattering nature. Worst of all, Abbot always visited the palace with his father, leaving her alone to tolerate his wife for him.
Adeline, who had been standing at one of the corners in the living room, quietly came forward to clear the cups away.
