Chapter 293: One More
Emily had to admit that the day before had been pretty eventful for her. From suddenly getting the email from HR telling her that she needed to come in to handle some stuff. To seeing Derek again. Not only had she seen Derek, but she’d also seen her replacement.
The new Emily, the one who was blonde and had blue eyes, and had a face like nothing could shake her.
The unflappable new Emily.
It was more than enough to send anyone into a tailspin. Add to all of those events the fact that Emily had not just been seeing her former boss. But she had also been seeing her former boyfriend. The man looking at her like she was the one who was at fault.
The one responsible for things not working out between them, and she had not stood a chance. In fact, her going out afterwards, and making sure to get as drunk as was humanly possible was actually the most logical thing that any sane human being would have done in her situation.
If she had come back from all of that and had continued on with life as though nothing had changed. Doing her cleaning, cooking, embroidering and just hanging with her mother like nothing had happened. Then Emily would have really been worried about herself. That would have meant that something deep within her was shattered beyond repair.
She had been about to bear her heart to the man. To confess to loving him like she had never loved another. It was only right that she grieve her loss. But even as she saw no fault in the way in which she had chosen to express her pain over Derek.
Emily had to admit that she could have changed a few things. Maybe bought two bottles of wine instead of three, or she should have just stuck to one.
Had she done that, her head would not be feeling as though it were splitting open.
