Chapter 158: Rules And Regulations
While standing at the back of the conference room and watching Sebastian Haven pretend to be a decent human being. All sad eyes and shy smiles as he won over the crowd of reporters. Emily had wanted to throw up on more than one occasion. They were literally in a room full of people whose job it was to spot a liar and be able to dig up the truth. But somehow they were all trapped under Sebastian Haven’s spell.
There really was no justice in the world. And just knowing that she was partly responsible for this, since it had been her idea. For him to share the photos that he had watched up, Emily felt even worse.
Sure, it meant that she had saved the company a lot of money and averted the possibility of people having to face wage cuts or retrenchment because of Sebastian Haven, but it still only took off a small bit of her guilt. Were it up to her, both Sebastian and his lady of the night would have been hung out to dry, dealing with each other. Clearly they were the type of people who deserved one another. If Haven had not been involved, Emily would have let it play out, and looking at Derek and catching the slight look of disgust on his face.
She realized that he would have done the same too, which was why she had whispered some less than professional things about his uncle to him. When he had finally had enough and left, Emily had followed him quietly.
Glad to no longer be trapped in a room full of liars and idiots. But as they had made their way back to Derek’s office, a thought which had been floating around in Emily’s head ever since the beginning of Sebastian’s latest debacle had come back to the surface, and she had been unable to push it down. And so at the earliest chance she got, she had made Derek aware of it.
"We need to talk," She said, and she saw him tense.
Realizing how it must have sounded, Emily rushed to reassure him. "No, not like that. Do not worry. The sleep thing is still on. At least I hope it is. You haven’t changed your mind, have you?" He shook his head and she sighed in relief.
"Good, good. Because I have not changed my mind as well,"
She laced her fingers together, taking a deep breath, and then she carried on where she had left off. "But I have been thinking..." His green eyes narrowed slightly, his head tilted to the side, a sign that he was paying attention. "About..." He prompted, and Emily bit her bottom lip before continuing.
