Chapter 151: Nasty Things Come Back
If people were to be asked, not that Sebastian cared about their opinion. But if they were to be asked whether or not they thought him to be a patient man, the majority would say no. And he was fine with that. For the most part, he was not patient. After all, he was a Haven.
When he wanted something, it was within his right to have it, and have it at the very moment he even began thinking about it. That was what being a haven meant. Money, power, and having all of your whims catered to at the drop of a hat. But in truth, Sebastian could be patient when he wanted to. And the situation that he was currently in was one that was showing his patience. His last attempt to rile up his nephew had not gone as planned. And had the failure of that scheme made Sebastian mad?
Yes.
It had made him mad, he would admit to that. But after the wave of rage had passed, he had decided to wait. After all, there was a possibility that his nephew had been lying to him when he had said that things were on the up and up, between him and his PA. And the only thing that could prove his nephew a liar, Sebastian had decided in that moment would be time. If the end of the two-week extension came and went without his PA showing up. Then Sebastian would definitely know that where there was smoke, there was fire.
Then he would use the situation to his advantage. So rather than act, he had stayed quiet, patiently watching as his nephew mistreated other people’s personal assistants, something that even Sebastian knew was a huge mistake. He had seen the way that the other heads of department’s eyes narrowed each time his nephew berated the underlings, and it had been all that he could do to keep from smiling outright. He had not wanted to give his nephew a heads up, so instead he had smiled on the inside.
His plan had been simple. He would wait until the Monday that the PA was supposed to come back. And when she did not, he would start sowing the seeds of doubt. "Look at your leader. Did he not say that his personal assistant was coming back?"
"How can we trust someone who is always making excuses like that?"
"How can we be certain that the girl still works here? If she quit and he lied about it, do you really want somebody with a moral character so lacking, to be in charge, to be your boss? If he is willing to lie about this, imagine what else he is willing to be untruthful about,"
Those were the tidbits of information that Sebastian had been planning to start dropping, subtly shifting support away from Derek, not outright coming out and saying that he was a better candidate, but letting the people come up with their own conclusions.
Human beings were fickle like that. He was certain that if he kept applying pressure, dropping a few hints here and there, he would be able to get more than a few on his side. Plus, his nephew’s temper suddenly turning into that of a porcupine would be very helpful, in helping him pull more people over to his cause.
But all of that had hinged on the PA not coming back, as his nephew had said she would. So Sebastian had waited for Monday with bated breath.
