Sleeping With The CEO

Chapter 100: One More Lie

It was Friday night, the day when Emily’s ’time off’ was officially supposed to end. And needless to say, she was panicking.

Earlier that morning, right after they had finished having breakfast, her mom had looked right at her, a big smile on her face.

"Well, you must be happy, come next week you will be headed back to work. Slaying dragons and riding tigers in the big corporate jungle," It had been a happy statement. Her mother expressing joy at the fact that Emily would finally be getting out of the house regularly and doing productive things with her time. Were Emily not a lying, liar who was lying to her own mother, she would have been cheered by it.

Instead she had felt her stomach drop. She had known then and there that her time was up, that she should just give up on her employment lie and tell the truth. It would have been the smart thing to do. But had Emily been smart about such things, she would have never told the lie in the first place. And in that moment she had proven once again that she had not learned her lesson when it came to lying.

Rather than coming up with the truth and just laying it out there...she had lied...again. But to be fair, Emily was of the mind that it had not really been a new lie. Afterall, it was a lie that she had told in continuation to her first lie.

An extension, yes, extension had sounded much better in her head, so she had chosen to go with it as she had looked her mother right in the eyes and told yet another story that was not at all the truth. In fact, it was the exact opposite of the truth.

Instead of saying " I am not going back because I quit six weeks ago," Or softening the lie a bit and saying " Actually, I have been doing some soul searching, during my time off, and I have decided that Haven Group is not right for me, so I am just going to quit,"

Emily had gone for the option that would prolong her suffering.

"Oh, I forgot to tell you, I actually called the office yesterday and asked for an extension on my time off. It took a bit of wrangling, but I finally managed to get them to agree. And even better, my salary will be paid in full, no deductions for me," She had lied through her teeth, not even batting an eyelid at the end of it. By the time she uttered her last word, not even butter would have melted on her tongue had she been asked to taste it.
