Chapter 93: The Voice
Even in the breaks that they had, all Derek did was look at the message, not wanting to open it. If her message said she was coming back, he would be too happy to get any work done, and that would not be good.
If she was calling to tell him that she had found a better job, and needed his help for whatever reason, then it would crush him. And he would be too out of it to be any good at work. So Derek sat through the meeting, and thought of nothing but the message that Emily had left behind.
When the meeting ended, he went about his day, stull ignoring the call. He sat in on meetings, signed mergers, listened to top clients complain about nothing in particular, fired yet another PA, this time because he was nearly scalded with piping hot coffee, all because the PA had been ogling a passing woman’s cleavage(Derek was not even bothering with names anymore, this one was number fifteen). Fifteen left without much drama, apparently word had gotten round that the job as Derek’s PA was that of a revolving door. People were in and out, as it should be. The job of personal assistant to the Chief Executive Officer belonged to Emily Molson, and only Emily Molson.
With that thought in mind, Derek managed to hold on until he could finally leave for the day and head home to the manor. On the way home, he did not stop, knowing very well that if he did, there would be nothing preventing him from listening to the message.
Even once at home, Derek made sure to leave his phone upstairs when he went to have dinner with his mother. He felt like a sports fan who had not managed to watch the final the night before and was now doing everything in their power to make sure that the game was not spoiled in any way shape or form.
It was very stressful. And it got even more stressful under his mother’s ever watchful eye.
