Chapter 148 - 150: Overwhelming Anger
The kid was overjoyed and tried to stand up totally forgetting that his leg was broken. Jeff immediately lifted him onto his back and carried him as they continued forward.
With the kid guiding the way, Jeff decided to gather some information.
He kept his pace slow, knowing the boy’s frail body would not be able to handle his full speed, so he moved gently through the forest.
After a while, he finally understood the situation. The kid’s name was AJ and he and his sister had been kidnapped together and brought to this place.
Both of them lived alone with no parents, and his older sister was the one earning money for the two of them.
But one day, while they were on their way home a group of men grabbed them and forced them into a van, bringing them to this place.
Because his sister was pretty, they decided to take her for trafficking and push her into their private auction network, a place where wealthy buyers chose victims for their own purposes.
Luckily there are no buyers yet, so his sister was not sold yet. Those who were not chosen to be sold were taken for organ removal.
Which is precisely for the kid’s fate hearing this made anger rise inside of him. His blood boiled, and he had to force himself to stay calm as he listened.
But before that, they forced the captives to do labor until they became weak and useless, and only then would the organ removal begin.
To the traffickers, making these kids work and then discarding them was as normal as breathing.
"My decision to come here early was correct. If I arrived any later, more lives would have been lost," he muttered in his thoughts.
"Big brother that’s the place," the kid said.
As he pointed toward the large warehouse where several men were stationed outside, laughing and playing cards.
None of them had the slightest idea that a wolf was already standing at their doorstep, ready to end their lives.
"Kid close your eyes," he said.
The moment he raised his fingers, all seven of the men dropped to the ground. They did not even understand what caused their deaths.
He then turned his attention to the warehouse, he pushed open the entrance door and the sight that greeted him was a pile of bodies stacked in the center of the place.
The smell of rot hit his nose so suddenly that his stomach twisted in disgust.
"These bastards are not human," he cursed inside his mind.
He had seen scenes like this in anime before and felt nothing but seeing it in front of him.
And looking at the dried tears on the faces of the victims, the desperation still frozen in their expressions.
It was something entirely different, it was real, painful, and most of all enraging.
While he stood there filled with fury, the kid tapped his back and pointed toward a cell door.
Jeff followed the direction and reached the locked door. Without much effort he twisted the knob, breaking the lock as he opened it.
The lock could only crumble into scraps before him. Inside the cell were men, children, elderly, and women.
The ones who seemed to have suffered the most were the women and the elderly, their eyes empty and lifeless as if all hope had already been taken from them.
"All of you, this is your last chance to leave. Do not waste it,"
He said as he left the door open and moved to the next cells, breaking every lock with the same ease.
Seeing the open doors and realizing the guards outside were dead, the captives slowly stepped out, their bodies were shaking from excitement.
Because this is freedom...
He then instructed them to run straight toward a specific direction, telling them that once they reached the road ahead, the police would be waiting for them there.
He had already sent a message to the police while he was on the way with the kid on his back.
He was not supposed to let the police get involved again, since his original plan was to leave this place alone and let the body of those bastard’s rot.
But he did not expect that there were captives trapped inside, so for their safety contacting the authorities was the right choice.
"Where is your sister’s room?" he asked.
"Over their big brother," AJ said as he pointed toward a different door, one that looked like a storage room.
"Every cell was separated, and the ones we set free were the workers and the people whose organs were going to be taken."
"But inside the storage rooms were the high-value captives prepared to be sold to buyers, the ones reserved for trafficking and my sister was one of them," the kid explained.
Jeff could not help but looked at AJ and felt a heavy sadness.
Hearing a child speak about something so brutal so casually, was painful to hear even from him. No kid should ever learn these things, much less experience them.
Without wasting more time he kicked the storage door. It was made of thick solid metal but it shattered under his strength.
Inside the room about seven people were gathered all of them looking weak, frightened, and exhausted.
Most of them were women and their looks were pretty much above average than the rest.
What caught his attention is the one lying in the far corner with her eyes closed that looked almost like a corpse because of how malnourished she was.
"Big brother that’s my sister," AJ shouted.
After hearing the kid said that he first instructed the women to leave. After hearing the situation, they understood they were truly being saved this time.
One by one, they expressed their gratitude and run out until only the three of them remained.
Jeff approached the girl and looked down at her condition, AJ tapped his shoulder asking to be put down.
He then lowered himself and helped the kid onto the floor, "Big sister..." AJ cried softly as he held her hand.
The girl that seems to be around his age was lying on the cemented floor, with her long black hair clung to her face in messy strands.
It was oily and tangled after days without proper water. Her clothes were filled with torns that was covered in dust and grime.
Her cheeks were slightly hollow, lips dry and cracked, and faint shadows lay under her eyes.
The moment he got closer he felt how cold her skin was. Her body seemed to tremble uncontrollably, and as she slowly opened her eyes she panicked.
There was actually a man right in front of her, she tried to struggle but as she saw his little brother right beside the man.
She tried to stand and pulled his little brother away, but her legs failed her almost instantly.
Seeing this he was fast as she caught her before she collapsed, the weight of her body was frighteningly light, as if she could disappear at any moment.
"Big sister please don’t move, you’re so weak right now," AJ said as he hugged her.
"Calm down, I’m here to help you all, I’m no enemy," he explained after seeing that she was very suspicious.
Leaning back as she was still in his embrace, she took a glimpse of his eyes that is filled with radiance.
She was stunned for a moment before shaking her head, trying to calm herself.
When she realized how close she was to a man, her face turned completely red, especially when Jeff suddenly lifted her in a princess carry.
"Ahh," she yelped in surprise.
He held her carefully knowing that she was extremely frail. Even a little pressure could hurt her, so every movement he made was gentle.
"Pardon me for this and AJ, get on my back," Jeff said as he crouched down.
Hearing his voice up close she realized something surprising. His tone sounded young, more like a teenager than an adult.
Once AJ climbed onto his back, Jeff took one last look around the warehouse. He checked every corner and every cell to make sure no one was left behind.
When everything was empty and with that confirmation, he travelled back into the trees.
Even while carrying two people, his speed did not slow down. After only a minute, they reached the road.
He arrived even faster than the captives he had freed earlier despite the weight he was carrying.
"Just wait for the police to arrive, I still have some unfinished business left," he said as he carefully lowered her to the ground.
AJ then hopped off his back and immediately helped his sister sit comfortably.
"Sister, are you feeling fine now?" the little boy asked as he sat down and let her rest her head on his lap.
"I’m feeling... hmm..." she tried to answer.
But the moment her body relaxed, her stomach twisted painfully. A quiet gasp slipped from her lips as she clutched her abdomen.
Days of starvation were finally catching up to her now that she no longer needed to stay tense just to survive.
Her little brother panicked almost instantly, "Sister, what is wrong? What is happening? Are you having a fever?" he asked, his voice shaky as he leaned over her.
Seeing him worry so much, she forced a weak smile as she comforted him.
"I am fine your big sister is just having a stomachache," her voice was small and soft, though the pain on her face made it clear it was much worse.
Jeff looked back at them and understood what she was feeling. It must be that the moment her body felt safe and all the tension she had been holding onto collapsed.
Hunger and exhaustion swept in at once, overwhelming her too much.
Deciding to help one more time he walked back to them, as he squatted down and he gently placed his hand over her abdomen.
