Chapter 37: So awesome

"So, classmate Celeste asked for an explanation and examples. Allow me to explain," Jeff said as the two locked eyes.

Celeste and Jeff were not particularly close, but they did not dislike each other either. However, Celeste saw him as a rival because of his intelligence.

Sometimes, when there was an exam, she would always ask about his score. There were times when she lost to him, but there were also moments when she won.

Jeff could sense her competitive spirit, but he did not care much about it. If he had taken it seriously, he would not have lost in those exams.

"So, intertextuality means that a story or text is connected to another story or text. It happens when one text mentions, copies, or is inspired by another, whether clearly or subtly."

"For example," Jeff continued as he looked around at his classmates.

Those who had been feeling sleepy were now fully awake, especially the girls.

Jeff’s voice seemed to fill them with energy, leaving them dazed as they simply stared at him.

"If a movie shows a scene where the main character raises a sword and shouts ’For Asgard,’ that is a reference to Thor from Marvel or Norse mythology. It is not copying the entire story, but it creates a connection to another well-known text. And that is the purpose of intertextuality," Jeff explained.

"Ohhh," they murmured softly, finally understanding what it meant.

Mrs. Baldoza smiled and nodded as if she had just understood, though in truth she already knew the entire module and was simply following along with the rest of the class.
