Chapter 102
The oxygen in the air seemed to grow thinner and thinner. She ran while coughing, and the road ahead of her wavered before her eyes! She was afraid! Afraid that this mountain path was too long and rugged! Afraid of being caught by Sun Yulin again! Yet, what she feared most was the long-forgotten little demon inside her body that could strike her down anytime, robbing her of any chance to escape! And she distinctly heard the little demon’s approach...
However, heaven ultimately favored her. The road at the foot of the mountain wavered and shimmered like a jade belt in her blurred vision. She ran toward it with all her might in a frenzied escape.
The path down the mountain was treacherous, and she had chosen a secluded trail to avoid pursuit! She stumbled along as she ran whenever possible; when there was no path left, she simply rolled down! Thus, running and rolling, she finally set foot on level ground.
At that moment, she was coughing and gasping for air! It felt as if someone were tightly gripping her throat, pressing against her chest, making every breath of air excruciatingly difficult!
She knew she couldn’t go much farther...
But she had to keep running! Her vision had grown fuzzy! Her clothes clung to her, soaked with sweat, and as the mountain wind blew, she shivered with cold! Her legs felt as if they had been filled with lead, but no matter how heavy they were, she had to drag them forward, step by step, to escape! Even if it was only a crawl! She couldn’t fall back into those people’s hands...
But it was so terribly difficult! Every breath felt like her last! She clutched her chest as her consciousness began to grow faint...
It felt as though she was brought back to when she was very small, her mom stood on a stool, hanging herself with a rope...
She saw a chubby little hand, clutching a rainbow-colored Bangbangtang, and a tender child’s voice saying, "Grandma said, when you’re sad, your heart feels sour. A piece of candy can make it sweet again..."
Tears streamed down her cheeks, and she vaguely heard the shrill honk of a car before everything went black...
