The devout old Believer Parker was astonished to hear that the "Primordial Messenger" Mira was leaving.
Of course, he knew that Mira had performed many miracles these past days, but her sudden departure perplexed Parker.
In Parker’s view, after Mira’s arrival in the city below, something significant should have happened, like the appearance of the Primordial or the announcement of God’s will... but none of these occurred. The Primordial Messenger arrived in the Land of No Light without any indication, performed miracles, and then left just as unannounced.
This wasn’t even a case of starting with a bang and ending with a whimper; it was nothing but whimper from start to finish.
Mira naturally saw through Parker’s confusion.
To calm the old Believer, Mira spoke out,
"Do you really presume to guess at the immortal God’s intentions? You can’t even comprehend how thunder comes to be, how could you understand His plans?"
The old Believer Parker showed realization and then ceased his questioning.
At Mira’s command, Parker hurriedly prepared the carriage to take them away from the city below.
The Land of No Light was always dim, with no clear distinction between day and night, yet, people still needed rest, so they left when most were resting.
Watching the carriage slowly drive out of the city below, Mira breathed slightly easier.
