The Princess Anos let out a long breath, and then a fierce wave of dizziness accompanied by a great pain in her heart struck her; she stumbled, nearly tumbling down the thousand-stepped staircase.
Mira quickly moved to her side, supporting the Princess’s supple waist with one hand, while softly chanting Ancient Language spells to suppress the pain.
The elders did not follow them; no one could see Anos and Mira in this state.
After a moment, Anos nodded slightly to signal that she was alright, though under her mask, she was drenched in cold sweat.
With concern, Mira released her hand and accompanied her slowly back to their residence in the city below the city.
Along the way, no one detected their presence, for Mira had used Ancient Language to conceal them.
Once back in the room, seated on a long chair, Anos removed her mask, her face pale and pained as she gasped for air.
"Anos..."
Mira wanted to say, "Are you okay?" but the words were held back in her throat. The girl too removed her mask and, as usual, pressed on the Princess’s chest.
Before long, as the Ancient Language took effect, a semblance of healthy color gradually returned to Anos’s features, her handsome brows betraying a faint trace of worry.
