Chapter 176: New mission
The morning sun filtered through the Haven’s windows, the breakfast table littered with empty plates—scrambled eggs, toast, and bacon, their smoky aroma lingering.
Kael, in a creased t-shirt and jeans, led Freya, Rhea, and Lila to the fifth empty room in the Haven’s creaky maze.
The space was stark, its walls bare like the villains’ cells, with only a sagging bed in one corner, a faint mildew scent clinging to the air, and a portable projector humming on a table, its lens aimed at a cracked wall.
Freya sat neatly on the bed’s edge, her posture crisp, her icy blue bodysuit shimmering with frost-like patterns, its high collar framing her neck, a lightweight white cape catching the projector’s glow.
Lila mirrored her, sitting primly, her loose gown swishing, her glasses glinting, her collar off, her face focused.
Rhea lounged, legs sprawled, her orange and black bodysuit pulsing with ember-like flares, its sharp lines accentuating her relaxed slouch, a grin tugging at her lips.
Kael flicked on the projector, a grainy image of two figures from CCTV cameras—GaleM and GaleF—flickering on the wall, their silhouettes wreathed in swirling wind.
"Let’s start with the mission brief," he said, his voice steady, a pen pointed towards the screen on the wall. "Your target is GaleM and GaleF, Class A, a couple. Both wield wind powers—gusts strong enough to shred steel, precise enough to carve stone. They’re holed up in an abandoned wind farm, 20 miles north, near the old quarry. That place is a maze of rusted turbines and dust storms they whip up for cover. Expect low visibility and razor-sharp air currents."
He clicked to a map, the farm’s layout glowing. "They’ve been hitting supply convoys—medical shipments, food, tech—leaving nothing but wreckage. Last week, they leveled a hospital warehouse, cutting off ventilators for a whole ward. Custody’s the goal, you have to get them alive, not dead."
