Chapter 155: crunch
Kael woke in the dim morning light, his body sandwiched between Freya and Rhea, their limbs tangled over him like a living heavy blanket.
Freya’s platinum-cyan hair spilled across his chest, her breath cool against his skin, while Rhea’s crimson locks tickled his neck, her warmth radiating like a furnace.
Their legs intertwined with his, pinning him to the bed.
He lay still, his hazel eyes flickering with focus as he activated his empathetic resonance, a subtle pulse of his power soothing their minds, keeping them in a deep sleep.
He needed to slip away unnoticed—if either of them wakes up, then he wouldn’t get to do what he was about to do now.
Carefully, he disentangled himself, easing Freya’s arm off his shoulder and sliding out from under Rhea’s leg, his movements silent.
He grabbed his jeans and t-shirt from the floor, dressing quickly, his stun baton clipped to his belt.
Kael stepped into the hallway, and knocked softly on Lila’s door before opening it.
Lila was already awake, sitting on her bed in her loose gown, her glasses slightly askew, her black curly hair framing her anxious face.
The power-suppressing collar gleamed faintly around her neck. Kael gestured for her to follow, leading her to the hallway, far enough from Tila’s room to avoid being overheard.
"Lila," he said, his voice low but persuasive, his hazel eyes locking onto hers, "I need you to join Freya and Rhea on the mission today. Be a temporary member of REAPER while I work with Tila."
