Kael stepped into the Haven, the late evening air cool against his skin, his arms laden with a bag from his errands.
The day had been productive: he’d pulled a few strings with Harris to register Freya as an A-rank superhero, bypassing the super hero test—a favor that cost him a chunk of cash, but there was no other way, Freya would have to reveal her face during the test and would have got caught.
He’d also secured their first official mission from the Department of Superhuman Affairs, a straightforward gig that felt like a perfect warm-up for the team, much easier than dealing with those rats.
To top it off, he’d bought three phones—one for Freya, one for Rhea, and one for the Haven—ensuring he could stay in touch and track them legally without resorting to secret trackers.
The last thing he needed was them thinking he didn’t trust them.
Excitement buzzed in his chest.
Tomorrow marked REAPER’s first official mission, and with Freya and Rhea’s combined strength, Kael might not even need to tag along unless the challenge escalated.
Things were finally falling into place, and starting tomorrow, he’d begin working with Tila, his new client, to guide her toward rehabilitation.
The Haven was becoming a real operation.
He turned the key in the lock, but it clicked uselessly—the door was already unlocked.
