"You didn’t fail, Freya," Kael said, his voice softening, his hazel eyes warm. "This was good practice. I got to see how you both work together. You’re not used to working in teams, but you need to now. That’s how you’ll get stronger, how you’ll take down S-class enemies. Alone, you’ll struggle. Together, you’re strong, you can grow strong."
Rhea stayed silent, her crimson hair hiding her face as she shifted her weight, her thighs pressing together.
She didn’t care about S-class enemies or teamwork right now—all she wanted was to sprint to her room, lock the door, and let her fingers finish what the egg had started.
Or.
She can take any of the toys Kael had bought. It was a better idea.
Freya, though, absorbed Kael’s words, her dejection easing, a spark of determination flickering in her blue eyes.
"Let’s do it again," Freya said, turning to Rhea, her voice firm, her posture straightening despite her exhaustion.
"What? No!" Rhea cried, her amber eyes wide with panic, her hands shooting up in protest. The thought of another round, another hour of edging torture, made her stomach twist.
Kael chuckled, his grin easy, his hazel eyes glinting with amusement.
"Enough for today. You both need rest. Go sleep. We’re hitting the sewers tomorrow—those rats have it coming."
Freya’s brows shot up, her voice tinged with surprise. "But... we couldn’t—"
