Chapter 99: like a wild dog

The kitchen hummed with the sizzle of eggs frying in a pan, their yolk-heavy scent mingling with the faint tang of coffee.

Freya stood at the stove, her hair loose, catching the morning light filtering through windows, her cyan t-shirt snug against her curves, navy blue pants shifted as she flipped the eggs with a flick.

Kael stepped in, a faint flush lingering on his face. He leaned against the counter, the creak of the floorboards under his boots blending with the pan’s hiss.

"Rhea woke up fine?" Freya asked, her voice teasing but edged with curiosity, glancing over her shoulder, her blue eyes narrowing. "Not like a wild dog, tearing the place apart?"

Kael’s grin was wry, his hazel eyes glinting with amusement as he stepped closer, his hand darting out to deliver a playful slap to Freya’s ass.

Slap!

The sound a sharp crack in the quiet kitchen.

"Yeah, she’s fine," he said, his voice low, warm. "More than fine, actually."

Freya’s grin flashed, quick and wicked, and she turned, rising on her toes to press a soft kiss to his cheek, her lips warm, her breath a tickle against his skin.

"You look horny, Kael," she said, her voice a playful purr, her blue eyes dancing with mischief. "What happened in there?"

Kael’s brow arched, a chuckle escaping, his hand brushing the back of his neck. "How’d you know?" he asked, his tone half-curious, half-defensive.
