The torrential rain pounded the man’s shirt, causing the fabric’s dye to bleed and run.
Just pulled from the water, his face still wore a blank expression—he couldn’t understand why the Triad Society had targeted him.
Sighting Xu Si, he finally realized the answer. His smoke-stained sharp teeth emerged, grating together with a faint rustle. His voice was weak, a consequence of his exhausting confinement.
"You’re actually from the Triad Society! You’re despicable, pretending to be an outsider to trick me into talking."
Xu Si’s turbulent emotions had yet to calm. She had just taken a couple of breaths of fresh air when her spirit immediately deflated. Her hand rested on the umbrella handle, gripping it tightly as she tried to maintain a calm voice, "You’re wrong. I’m not."
"Don’t pretend, woman. If you’re not from the Triad Society, why would they help you?"
A trace of impatience flashed in Xu Si’s eyes. She stood with her long legs braced on the slightly swaying deck, a cool smile touching her lips.
"Are you irredeemably stupid, or has your brain been waterlogged? What makes you think I owe you an explanation?"
The man in the floral shirt froze, his teeth itching with hatred. "Damn it, you better hope I don’t find out who you are."
No sooner had he spoken than a fierce wind, heavy with large raindrops, swept across the deck, making the umbrellas sway.
A droplet of water clung to Xu Si’s rose-pink lips. She reached out with slender fingertips to wipe it away.
The weather felt oppressive, hardly suitable for catching one’s breath. She turned and went back inside the cabin without giving the man another glance.
