Chapter 68: Packet capture
The Underground City during the day remained as tranquil as ever. Dense fog swirled overhead, resembling a lifeless, ghostly city where migrating birds dared not pause to rest.
After the call was abruptly terminated, Xu Si could tell from that final "okay" that the man was in a good mood. Even if his temperament, identity, and status had changed, the innate talent one is born with would not. Having raised the young boy for several years, she knew all too well how keen his observational talents were. Therefore, she was even more certain of what she needed to do right now: hurry to Gambling City, meet Aier, and get the Identity Card. Otherwise, it would be too late.
That day, a dreary rain blanketed the sky. Xu Si took her gun and phone, chose an unassuming car from the garage, and swiftly headed to the city center with a few bodyguards. This was what Pei Zhen had promised her. Ever since he had awakened, the servants had never again restricted her movements under the guise of protection.
The roar of the engine and the sound of the wind and rain filled her ears. Xu Si drove as if racing against life itself, speeding through the streets of the Triad Society district. Anyone who spotted the car’s license plate stayed well clear. It wasn’t until she arrived at Gambling City that her surroundings became utterly quiet.
As autumn approached the Underground City, the air was still humid and stiflingly hot. The empty streets radiated heat, yet they couldn’t dispel the fog that hung beneath the cloud cover.
Holding her gun, Xu Si had just gotten out of the car when she heard someone calling her name.
"Xu."
Looking in the direction of the voice, Xu Si saw Aier’s sedan. The white car had its windows half open to let air in. The license plate bore the unique symbol-number arrangement of Germany. A driver was at the wheel, while a gentlemanly dressed man sat in the backseat, looking very familiar.
Xu Si’s upturned peach-blossom eyes narrowed slightly as she walked over. "Long time no see."
