Chapter 59: Living at the mercy of others
Xu Si indeed remained motionless. Living under someone else’s roof, well, she could still endure it. This man was truly capricious. One moment, he was speaking calmly and reasonably; the next, he was like a tyrant from another world.
She also hadn’t planned to continue acting like a meek, submissive lamb to make him soften up and let her go. It was meaningless.
From the moment she got in the car, she understood: a man this violent and willful couldn’t possibly be into anything like pure love.
The luxury car drove through one solemn, secluded district after another. Sometimes, even Xu Si, an outsider, could tell that the areas they were passing through weren’t Triad Society territory, yet members of other gangs merely stood by, watching them leave.
Everywhere seemed to be the domain of the Underground City. And for this man, there were no taboos; everything was unobstructed for him.
He had told her to come with him. Xu Si didn’t know where she would be taken, as these people seemed to highly value the privacy of their domains, and she did not ask further.
In the dimly lit car, with the overhead light off, she could only see the even darker street scenes outside the windows, listlessly waiting for the ride to end.
As she watched, she noticed something strange.
Since entering the Triad Society’s district, all the greenery and trees were of the same species. There were no additional floral decorations, making it very monotonous.
