Chapter 193: CH 193
Dave stood tall, his eyes locked on the three guards as they transformed into massive beasts. Compared to the majestic creature beneath him, the guards’ beasts seemed almost diminutive. Dave’s voice boomed through the air, his words carrying a sense of authority. "What are you doing? Are you trying to fight me again?" he thundered, his gaze piercing the guards.
The three guards exchanged uncertain glances, their eyes flicking between Dave and each other. What did he mean by his words? Had they clashed before? The guards’ confusion was palpable, their minds racing with questions. But as they looked at Dave, they saw only determination and a hint of frustration.
The lead guard, a towering beast with razor-sharp claws, let out a deep growl. The sound was almost humanoid, yet feral, a strange blend of beast and man. "No matter what you say, we’re not letting you in," the guard snarled, its voice sounding like thunder. "You don’t belong here!"
The guard’s words hung in the air, a challenge to Dave’s authority. The atmosphere was charged with tension, the two sides locked in a silent standoff. Dave’s eyes never left the guards, his mind working overtime to unravel the mystery of their actions.
Why were they so determined to stop him? And where were Jackie and the rest of the mergers? Will he have to take actions into his hands? He thought with how he had been introduced to everyone in the faction, there shouldn’t be an occurrence like this happening again.
Meanwhile, one of the guards standing beside the lead guard had started whispering to the rest, his voice was laced with doubt as he turned to them. "Are you sure this is right?" he asked, his eyes darting towards the group before them. "We’re clearly outmatched by these people. Do you think we’ll be able to take them all out?"
His companion’s expression turned resolute, a determined glint in his eye. "We have no choice," he replied with a firm voice. "Don’t be taken back by their huge number. Ken is already gone to inform those inside. They’ll bring reinforcement. All we have to do is hold these people back till they arrive, we can do that much as guards, right?"
A hint of excitement crept into his voice as he continued, "What do you think will happen if our leader hears about our bravery? How we protected the faction from intruders? Especially these ones who looked like they could swallow us whole. We’ll be promoted from guards to high-ranking members and also be rewarded dearly!" He exclaimed silently.
The guard’s words painted a vivid picture in their minds, and the other guards began to nod in agreement. But one of them hesitated, his brow furrowed in concern. "But the leader is not here yet," he said, his voice uncertain. The first guard’s smile grew wider.
"Yes, but Jackie told us to watch out for him," he said. "He said he might arrive anytime soon. Who knows, he could even be watching us right now. He might even join in the fight and protect us. That might even bring us closer to the leader." The guards’ imaginations ran wild, envisioning the rewards and privileges that awaited them.
