Forbiddenly Bound To  You

Chapter 137: He Is Not Safe

Mira’s body began to tremble as her hands instinctively rose to cover her ears. The world around her felt like it was collapsing, the noise of her own chaotic thoughts overwhelming her senses. She squeezed her eyes shut, willing it all to stop, to disappear, to return to some semblance of peace. Her breath came in quick, shallow whispers as she finally managed to speak, her voice trembling like a fragile leaf in a storm.

"Zamian..." she whispered.

Her plea was soft, almost lost in the heavy silence between them, but it reached him. Zamian, standing just a few steps away, froze. His cold, calculating gaze faltered for a moment. There it was—a flicker of realization crossing his hardened features. In that single instant, he remembered—no, realized—just how much Mira had seen, how much she had endured. His chest tightened with the weight of guilt that surged through him. He hadn’t wanted this. He hadn’t wanted her to witness this side of him.

But now it was too late.

Silence fell, thick and suffocating, like the calm before a storm. Zamian stood motionless, his fists clenched at his sides. His jaw tightened as he struggled to suppress the emotions bubbling beneath his surface. For the first time in what felt like an eternity, he was unsure. Unsure of what to say, unsure of how to bridge the growing chasm between them.

Before Zamian could gather his thoughts, the screech of tires pierced the oppressive stillness. Mira flinched at the sound, her eyes snapping open. A car came to a sudden halt just a few feet away, the smell of burning rubber mixing with the tension in the air. She blinked in surprise, her gaze darting toward the source of the noise.

Standing there, stepping out of the car with an urgency that mirrored the situation, was John. His face was pale, his expression a mixture of concern and determination. He wasted no time.

"Mrs. Mira," he called out, his voice steady yet tinged with desperation. "Please, could you enter the car?"

Mira hesitated, her gaze flickering between Zamian and John. Her hands slowly lowered from her ears, but her trembling didn’t stop. Her feet felt like they were rooted to the ground, caught between two impossible choices. Zamian’s piercing gaze bore into her, and for a brief moment, she thought she saw a flash of something in his eyes—regret, or perhaps pain. But it was gone just as quickly as it had appeared.

Without uttering a word, she took a shaky step toward the car, her movements hesitant and unsure. Each step felt heavier than the last as if the weight of her guilt and fear was pulling her down.

Her heart raced as she reached the car door, her mind a whirlwind of emotions. Panic, confusion, and regret all mingled together, forming a storm she couldn’t control. The words escaped her lips before she could stop them, fragile and full of despair.
