Forbiddenly Bound To  You

Chapter 134: Chase Of Shadows

The silence stretched on, thick and heavy. Mira leaned back in her seat, trying to ignore the uneasy flutter in her stomach. She tried to focus on the moment and make the best of the ride, but worry clouded her mind. Something wasn’t right, and the more she tried to ignore it, the more it gnawed at her.

Her thoughts were a blur as she glanced at Zamian. His face remained stoic, his eyes focused on the road ahead. But she could feel it—the tension radiating from him, thick in the air between them. There was something unsettling in the way he held himself, the way his hands gripped the steering wheel so tightly, the way his jaw clenched every now and then.

Without warning, Zamian reached for his phone again, his movements sharp and deliberate. Mira stiffened at the sound of the click as he unlocked the screen. She didn’t have time to ask before he was already on the phone, his voice a low murmur that barely registered in the silence of the car.

"James," Zamian said, his tone steady but firm. "Go pick Zami up."

Mira’s heart skipped a beat at the mention of Zami’s name. The abruptness of the request was strange and unsettling. She hadn’t expected him to make a call like that, especially not with such urgency. Before she could process what was happening, Zamian ended the call with a swift motion, not bothering to wait for a response. He tossed the phone aside carelessly, and his fingers tightened on the steering wheel, his knuckles turning white.

Mira felt something was off. She remembered Zamian had mentioned they were planning to pick up Zami, so why had he changed his mind? What was happening? He appeared calm, but there was something unsettling about the way he held himself. He looked composed, but not really. Maybe he wasn’t even aware that his true frustration stemmed from not being able to pick up Zami as planned. The thought gnawed at her, and her unease deepened.

A cold feeling ran through Mira as she watched him, the once casual air between them turning tense, almost suffocating. His focus remained fixed ahead, his jaw clenched tightly. He wasn’t just driving anymore—he was on high alert. The car moved swiftly, maneuvering through the empty road with practiced ease, but there was a sense of urgency in the way he did it. His movements were precise, controlled, but Mira could sense the rising storm beneath the surface.

Mira’s pulse began to quicken, her instincts kicking in as the hair on the back of her neck stood up. Her unease swelled into something darker, a quiet panic beginning to unfurl inside her. She glanced at Zamian again, searching for any sign of what was happening. The man she knew wasn’t this tense—not unless something was wrong.

"Zamian," she said, her voice shaking as the words trembled in the heavy air between them. "What’s going on?"
