Chapter 99: Kiss Me
Zamian, still surprised by Mira’s words, hadn’t yet fully processed the softness of her breasts pressed against his face. Every beat of her racing heart thudded steadily against him, a rhythm he couldn’t ignore. His mind, so often focused and calculated, seemed to pause in this moment, overwhelmed by the closeness and vulnerability between them.
"I’m here," he murmured softly, his voice carrying both reassurance and a promise he wasn’t even fully aware of. He could feel her breath against his skin, the warmth of her presence grounding him. "I will never leave you," he added, a certainty he hadn’t realized had taken root in him until now.
His arms, strong but gentle, wrapped around her as he began to softly pat her back. He hoped the motion would soothe her, bring her comfort in a way words sometimes couldn’t. Slowly, Mira pulled away, just enough to meet his gaze, and for a moment, the world seemed to fall away around them. It was as though some hidden communication passed between their eyes—an unspoken exchange of warmth, safety, and understanding. They didn’t need words to know that in this moment, they were each other’s anchor.
"I’m here," Zamian reassured her again, his voice tender but firm. His eyes softened as he reached into the drawer beside the bed, pulling out a small white towel. With the utmost care, he wiped her tear-streaked face, his touch gentle yet deliberate. He wanted her to know that she didn’t need to hide her emotions from him, that her vulnerability only made him cherish her more.
After wiping her face, he turned to grab a bottle of water from the same drawer. Unscrewing the cap, he offered it to Mira, his eyes still locked onto hers. Even in such a simple gesture, there was an intimacy—a connection that spoke louder than words. Mira took the bottle, her fingers brushing lightly against his, and for a brief moment, she allowed herself to revel in the warmth of his presence.
"Kiss me," Mira’s voice was low but filled with determination. Her request was unexpected, and it caught Zamian off guard. For a split second, he froze, surprised by his wife’s bold words. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to kiss her—he did, more than anything—but the suddenness of her request made his heart race, and for a moment, he felt the weight of his emotions catch up with him.
"Ki—" Mira began to repeat herself, thinking perhaps Zamian hadn’t heard her, but before she could finish the word, his lips were already on hers. His kiss was soft, gentle, yet filled with a hidden promise. It wasn’t rushed or hurried; it was deliberate, a slow burn that spoke of everything he felt for her but hadn’t yet put into words. He kissed her as if trying to convey that he would always be there for her, no matter what. After what felt like an eternity but was only moments, they gently pulled away.
"I have a surprise for you," Zamian said softly, his voice carrying a hint of excitement. "But you’ll have to wait until I get back."
Mira’s curiosity was immediately piqued. What surprise could he possibly have in store for her? The spark in her eyes was undeniable as she stared at him, her mind already racing with possibilities. But she also knew Zamian well enough to know that he wasn’t one to reveal his plans easily. Still, she couldn’t help but wonder what he was planning for her.
