Chapter 73: Wedding Night
"Z-Zamian, w-we’re cooking. Let’s finish this," Mira finally found her voice, a mix of nervousness and excitement fluttering in her chest.
Zamian pulled away slowly, almost reluctantly, a soft smile playing on his lips as he regarded her.
"Continue with the fruits," she instructed, doing her best to focus on the task at hand, fighting the urge to glance in his direction. She needed to concentrate, to avoid any distractions as she resumed chopping and preparing the ingredients.
Mira decided to prepare something simple yet delicious: herb-crusted chicken with roasted vegetables. It was a recipe she loved, and she felt it would be perfect for their special evening.
"Done," she heard Zamian say as he turned to her. Mira smiled, glancing over at the plate filled with an array of colorful fruits he had arranged. He was impressively quick to learn, and she couldn’t help but admire his efficiency.
She had already finished setting out the ingredients on the counter. Zamian stood by, waiting for her next instruction like an eager child. Who knew he could be so compliant? Mira held back a smile, a warm feeling spreading in her chest.
"Then you’ll just be handing me the ingredients," she said, her voice light. Zamian nodded eagerly, eyes sparkling with enthusiasm.
"Chicken," Mira instructed, and Zamian promptly handed it to her, a pleased look on his face. As she called out the next ingredients—garlic, rosemary, and thyme—he continued to pass them over, and everything was going smoothly. They looked adorable together, almost like a newlywed couple, though they already were.
"Lastly, the assorted vegetables," she said, feeling the warmth of his presence nearby.
Mira cleaned the dining table while Zamian arranged the plates. In that moment, she wished this could last longer—a simple life without the prying eyes and judgments from others. She longed for a peaceful existence, filled with laughter and children running around, playing freely. That was her dream. But sometimes, one had to accept that those were just dreams and this was reality.
"Done," he replied, a hint of pride in his voice as they both set the dining table and arranged the food. They sat down, ready to enjoy their meal together.
