The Dark Fairy King

Chapter 26: Summary

Chapter 1: A Nap Interrupted

We’re introduced to Veravos, a sarcastic and powerful Dark Fairy who just wants to nap in peace. His quiet is interrupted by a nervous human adventurer trying (and failing) to slay him. Veravos mocks the human rather than killing him, dismissing the idea that all Dark Fairies are evil. The scene escalates slightly when Devran, another Dark Fairy, arrives and encourages Veravos to burn the human or let him kill the intruder himself.

Veravos refuses, preferring to insult rather than destroy. When the human damages his poison apple tree, Veravos briefly gets serious and uses his powers to terrify the man into fleeing. Devran criticizes him for letting the human go, and the two fairies bicker about purpose, power, and the supposed destiny of Dark Fairies. Veravos, uninterested in conquest or Devran’s world domination dreams, leaves to find amusement elsewhere since his nap is ruined.

Chapter 2: The Wild Card

After scaring off the human and brushing off Devran, Veravos retreats to his favorite poison apple tree, soaking in the natural beauty of the realm. He reflects on the different types of fairy kingdoms—the suffocating purity of the Light Fairies, the manipulated harmony of the Love Fairies—and questions his own identity as a Dark Fairy. While musing, he spots a Light Fairy couple fighting below and is entertained... until a Love Fairy appears.

This Love Fairy, a red-haired wildcard, doesn’t follow protocol. Instead of immediately casting a spell to resolve the conflict, she watches it unfold with amusement. When prompted by an elder to intervene, she cheekily delays. Eventually, she casts a love-sick spell that triggers a torrent of tears and despair in the Light Fairy girl—effectively weaponizing love magic in a disturbingly precise, manipulative way.

Veravos is stunned. Not just by the spell’s intensity, but by the fact that a Love Fairy—supposedly committed to harmony—used love like a weapon. He watches her vanish, deeply intrigued and unsettled. By the end of the Chapter, he can’t stop thinking about her—and he admits, reluctantly, that she has become his new obsession.

Chapter 3 : The Hunt and the Fool

Nightfall energizes Veravos as he sets out to hunt, seeking worthy prey—not weak fairies or humans, but villains who can match his predatory standards. While stalking his dark forest, he encounters the annoying human again, this time accompanied by a female vampire. The vampire tries to defend the human but Veravos asserts his dominance, ultimately draining her life force with dark magic until she disintegrates.

The human panics and threatens Veravos with a sword, which crumbles to dust. Veravos lets him flee, uninterested in the chase.

Later, Devran shows up again, pushing his agenda of conquest over the fairy kingdoms and beyond. Veravos mocks his foolishness, reiterates his own code: feed only on monsters to avoid becoming a monster himself. Devran warns of Queen Judorah’s displeasure and demands Veravos join or fight them.

Veravos remains defiant and alone, watching suspiciously as a group of Love Fairies heads toward the Light Kingdom, where they are unexpectedly welcomed—a sign something unusual is unfolding.
