Chapter 737: Riding the Tiger
Kang Yue deflated instantly when she realized that Tang Yuchan really wanted her to come along. She wished she hadn’t agreed so readily without asking about the plan—wasn’t she just ruining Yuchan’s arrangements now? No matter how hard she racked her brain, she couldn’t think of a good solution. Seeing her sister’s demeanor, Tang Yuchan understood a bit of what was going on in her heart.
The two were, after all, good friends for many years. How could she not understand her close friend’s micro-expressions? The tone of Tang Yuchan’s words was icy, and Kang Yue knew she had misunderstood her sister. All right, it was a tricky situation now—how should she explain it? She had to make Yuchan believe it wasn’t intentional. Directly stating it seemed too blunt, and might bring a forced smile.
Regardless, she had to soothe her sister first, and everything else was negotiable. Quickly, she pulled Tang Yuchan to sit on the bed and started explaining, "This was supposed to be a private get-together between the two of you. I actually had nothing scheduled. Just now, Shen Dong told me he might want to dine alone with you, and I thought my presence might..."
"So you’re going to leave me there alone with him? How could you be so cruel at first? I thought we were going together. I don’t care; you’re going with me now."
Tang Yuchan still preferred to go with Kang Yue, not willing to let her sister witness her choice in men. But now, she felt trapped by her own quick agreement, especially since she had been the one to suggest it.
She wished she could go back a few seconds and slap herself, to calm down and think it through. With such a hasty decision, she had set herself up for a "critical hit." Now, she was deeply troubled. Well, it’s done. She racked her brain for a solution but couldn’t think of any viable options.
"Oh, right, I’ve got it. There’s really nothing going on between Shen Dong and me. Maybe I’ll find another spot to sit, and I can just observe you two interacting. I can help you directly with anything you need, so I won’t be a third wheel there," she proposed.
Kang Yue burst out laughing, pleased with the clever solution she had thought of. Her mind was indeed quite resourceful—she had casually come up with a solution and shared the idea immediately. Tang Yuchan paused before replying, "Are you worried about being the third wheel during a dinner? It’s just a simple meal, nothing complicated."
