Chapter 641 Maintenance
It was only now that Shen Dong realized how terrifying a girl could be when she was protecting something. The way she looked at him, as if she would throw herself down along with the shoes if he dared to do anything untoward to them, made him quickly decide to put the shoes back.
But when he saw her feet swollen like pig’s trotters, he couldn’t hold back any longer. These shoes had to be thrown away; who knew when the next injury might occur? What if she sprained her ankle in a moment of danger? Absolutely not. It was understandable for a girl to want to look beautiful, but not at the cost of getting hurt.
This was a malformed sense of beauty, and so, with great determination, he took the shoes out, intending to throw them away. Kang Yue felt utterly hopeless. Unable to move, she could only watch as her beloved shoes were taken away—shoes she had spent a lot of money on.
Now they were being taken away from her, and she hadn’t even worn them many times. Every time she wore them, she felt they were precious, and now she could only watch helplessly as they disappeared from sight. It seemed too cruel.
"Wait, don’t mess with them," she pleaded. "I’m telling you, these are really important to me. They’re my treasured shoes. Can’t you just not be so harsh and leave them here in the house? Even if I don’t wear them, I can keep them as a memory. Please spare these shoes and don’t be so cruel as to throw them away."
Kang Yue looked at the shoes longingly, hoping to keep them. Shen Dong felt he had no other choice. They were only a pair of shoes, after all. Why make such a big deal about them? There were plenty of shoes out there that could make one look taller, but it wasn’t necessary to choose ones that were too tall, as they could easily cause a sprain.
"How about this?" he suggested. "These shoes no longer suit you. How about I buy you a new pair one day? Let’s set these aside for now; there’s no rush to throw them away. If I haven’t bought you a new pair by then, you can still wear these. For now, take your shoes off. We won’t go out today. I’ll take you to the hospital and get your ankle treated."
"Just imagine if you couldn’t walk later on. Then how would you wear these shoes? You can see it’s painful to wear them, so hurry up and take them off. You’re still shielding them as if these shoes are your life. When we buy you new ones, there will be plenty more shoes. Don’t just focus on looking good for the moment and end up hurting your legs."
Shen Dong was very understanding. Although Kang Yue was not quite satisfied with his response, she had no choice but to take off her shoes and resign herself. Reluctantly, she handed the shoes over to Shen Dong. If he didn’t buy her a new pair later on as promised, she would throw a fit. Once her shoes were off, she lay down, waiting for someone to carry her to the hospital.
Shen Dong breathed a sigh of relief when he set the shoes on the ground. He realized that the shoes were especially heavy. The fact she had sprained her ankle wearing them showed how painful it must have been. However, the girl hadn’t shed a single tear from the moment she fell to now, not because it wasn’t painful, but because she was afraid—afraid that he would worry and blame himself.
