The bar had already begun to take shape; it was just awaiting its final touches. Oh right, didn’t Mr. Ma say he was inviting me to a dinner tomorrow night? The very person I wanted to meet would be there.
It was the developer of the piece of land I wanted. Without a specific name, everyone just called him Mr. Biao, a rather famous figure. But that wasn’t my style; I didn’t plan to spend that kind of money to secure the land.
I just wanted to get it at the lowest price possible, which was a bit tricky, but not entirely out of the question with Mr. Ma by my side. Everything was simpler with him around, and I needed to figure out how to persuade Mr. Biao to sell me that land.
Even if it ended up costing more, it wouldn’t matter; the important thing was to prevent it from being booked by someone else. If that happened, things would get difficult, and I’d have to consider other properties. The more I thought about it, the more my head hurt. Forget it; there was no point dwelling on it. There were plenty of other matters to attend to, and obsessing over this was just a waste of time. I forcibly closed my eyes only to hear the sound of the door turning.
Could that be Kang Yue coming over? She isn’t asleep at this late hour and is coming to my place? I was already feeling sleepy when I turned to look and indeed found Kang Yue there. With a hoarse voice, I asked, "What’s wrong, can’t you sleep alone?"
The poor woman just stood there, nodding blankly as if to say: "Yes, I can’t sleep. I’m really a bit scared." And so, quite naturally, she lay down on the bed.
Nothing else happened in between, we just lay there without saying a word. Kang Yue, who had been experiencing nightmares, found that lying there, things seemed much better. It was just a silly dream, after all; no need to get this worked up over it.
At that thought, Kang Yue couldn’t help but laugh aloud, feeling a bit silly and melodramatic. If it had been before, I would have just picked up my phone and browsed something interesting to while away the time until sleep took over, not like this.
"Alright, don’t you feel less afraid now that you’re by my side? Close your eyes and sleep. Don’t worry, I’m here to stay," Shen Dong said with an unusual gentleness. Before she knew it, Kang Yue had fallen asleep, her mind not wandering to any weird thoughts.
