He lowered his eyes and spoke in a cold, indifferent tone, dropping words that could drive someone to the edge. "What, you think you’re some kind of goddess? Worth my time to go threaten the King Family?"
"I just don’t want to be the idiot footing the bill to fund your King Family. How did that turn into me threatening them? You clearly have an inflated sense of your own importance. As far as I’m concerned, there’s nothing between us anymore."
His string of words—’goddess’ and ’funding’—was dripping with cold sarcasm.
Ella King trembled all over from the sting of his words. She stared at him, gritting her teeth. "Are you really this heartless? Even if there’s nothing between us anymore, you don’t have to be this cruel!"
Dale Land rubbed her arms dramatically. "Oh my goodness, goosebumps! Is this what men are into these days?"
She perked up her ears, silently eavesdropping on the drama.
Tara Young rarely furrowed his brow, but he did now. "Heartless? What heart is there to speak of between us? From the very beginning, you were the one begging me to save the King Family. It was a transaction between us. Understand?"
He liked life to go according to plan, and Ella King breaking their engagement had already thrown his schedule off track!
