Chapter 1777 - 1776: Full of Cunning Schemes
Tian Niu, in such a sorry state, was clutching a bouquet of bright red roses as he trudged upstairs.
It happened to be right around dinner time, so a lot of officers were heading home to eat. Seeing Tian Niu dressed like that, they couldn’t help but tease him.
"Captain Tian, you sure have a romantic side!"
"Captain Tian, your outfit is truly... creative!"
"What’s the story? Did your wife make you suffer again? Captain Tian, that delicate little wife of yours seems to give you a hard time often, huh?"
After being mocked like this, Tian Niu couldn’t even lift his head anymore. "Brothers, I’m begging you, go easy on me! Give your old pal Niu a shred of dignity!"
He finally reached his doorstep and steeled himself before knocking on the door.
The door opened, and Gu Shuangshuang, heavily pregnant, stood in the doorway. When she saw Tian Niu looking this pathetic, she didn’t know whether to laugh or be mad.
Then her gaze fell on the bouquet of bright red roses in his arms, and her anger instantly subsided by half. "So? Took you this long to finally figure things out?"
"Yeah, Shuangshuang, I was wrong. Please forgive me!" Tian Niu offered the roses to her with both hands. "In my eyes, my heart, it’s only you! I’ll love no one but you for my entire life!"
"That’s more like it." Gu Shuangshuang accepted the flowers, lowered her head to kiss them, and a smile appeared at the corner of her lips. "Now tell me, what’s the story with that girl?"
"What girl?" Tian Niu was stunned and completely clueless. "Shuangshuang, why are you bringing up a girl again? No, seriously, I don’t get it—why have you been mad at me these last few days?"
"You don’t know?"
"I don’t know!"
"You’re apologizing without even knowing why?" Gu Shuangshuang’s temper flared up instantly. "So you’ve just been brushing me off, haven’t you?"
"No, no! Shuangshuang, if you’ve got a problem with me, or if I’ve done something wrong, just tell me! You leaving me in the dark like this—I can’t figure it out even if I try!" Tian Niu was genuinely panicked, his face flushed red all the way to his neck.
"Can’t figure it out? You did something like that and still won’t admit it? If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, who knows how long you’d hide it from Shuangshuang?" Duan Aihua stormed out of the kitchen, wielding a spatula and looking furious.
These past few days, she had figured Shuangshuang was close to her due date, so she had specifically taken a bus from Jiangning to come over.
But not long after arriving, she unexpectedly ran into her son-in-law doing *that* kind of thing.
"Mom, what exactly did I do? Can’t you just spell it out for me?" Tian Niu was so anxious he wanted to bang his head against the wall. "The way you’re saying it all vague like this, I have no idea what it is I did!"
"With that attitude, there’s no way we can talk! Let me tell you, Tian Niu—you may look honest, but you’re sneaky as hell! You act all upright and simple, but your heart’s full of dirty tricks!" Duan Aihua was practically about to explode, pointing at Tian Niu while unleashing an avalanche of scolding.
"Captain, sister-in-law! See what I’m dealing with here? Look at how wronged I am! Come on already, don’t keep hiding over there in the corner!" Tian Niu couldn’t take the barrage from his mother-in-law anymore and called out for backup.
At this, Qin Jian and An Hao emerged from the corner downstairs. Originally, they’d thought if a bouquet of flowers could smooth things over, there was no need for them to step in.
It’d be easy enough to resolve the issue between Gu Shuangshuang and Tian Niu, but once Duan Aihua got involved, it inevitably became an all-out family battle. So Qin Jian and An Hao had wisely chosen to avoid getting involved.
But now, given the situation, avoiding it wasn’t going to cut it.
It was time for them to show themselves.
