Chapter 1758 - 1757: Giving You a Gift
"Damn it!" Mu Qiankun’s heart skipped a beat. Before he could say anything, gunfire erupted intensely from all directions. "We’ve been ambushed?"
"Brothers! Attack!" Zhao Dong shouted, and the two squads engaged in a fierce shootout.
Bullets zipped through the dense forest, striking stones and sending sparks flying. Smoke quickly filled the air, mingled with gunfire and screams, shaking the entire woods.
Mu Qiankun realized the situation had turned for the worse. Without thinking, he turned around and ran.
Though he claimed not to fear death and had sworn to go all in, when push came to shove, fear still gripped him, driving him to flee.
He fled along the same path, hoping that amidst the chaos of the firefight, he might be forgotten.
Then, he could hide out in the mountains for a couple of days. When things settled, he would resurface, return to Dongshan Village, and carry on as if nothing had happened.
After lying low for a while, he could resume his old trade without a hitch.
Mu Qiankun sprinted through the woods like the wind, the sound of gunfire growing more distant. His heart was full of relief, thinking his quick reflexes had saved him. He didn’t realize that someone had been closely observing him all along.
That person moved nimbly, like a sharp black silhouette cutting through the moonlight in a direct and fierce line.
Mu Qiankun was exhausted, his steps slowing down. He thought he heard something behind him but didn’t dare look back. He summoned every ounce of strength and kept running.
Suddenly, a loud bang rang out. Pain shot through his calf, and with a thud, he fell to the ground.
"Who? Who is it?" He clutched his wound in agony, searching with the faint light of the moon.
"Stop looking. It’s me! Mu Qiankun, we meet again." Qin Jian approached slowly, holding his gun, the cold barrel pointed directly at Mu Qiankun’s head. "I’ve suspected you for a while. But it seems I found out a little too late."
"It’s you!" Mu Qiankun recognized Qin Jian. "You’re the commander!"
"That’s right. Good memory!"
"Spare me this time, please! For the sake of my daughter saving your life, just let me go. One life for another—that’s fair, isn’t it?" Mu Qiankun begged repeatedly.
"Alright! I can spare your life. But you’ll have to ask the ones you’ve harmed if they’re willing to spare you!" Qin Jian said as he unbuckled his belt and bent down to tie Mu Qiankun up.
Mu Qiankun tried to resist, but Qin Jian stepped forward and delivered two heavy kicks. He collapsed entirely, unable to fight back anymore, leaving Qin Jian to bind him tightly.
"Move!"
"Where to?" Mu Qiankun recoiled, no longer the spirited runner from moments ago.
"To face judgment!" Qin Jian said, grabbing him and dragging him back as though hauling a dead dog.
By now, the battle had ended.
Zhao Dong was leading his men to clean up the aftermath. Over thirty firearms and ten kilograms of drugs had been seized, with more than half of the enemies killed and the rest captured alive.
"Strange! Weren’t these the robbers? Why haven’t we found the commander’s wife yet? Damn it!" Zhao Dong anxiously tugged at his hair. "How am I supposed to explain this to the commander?"
"You don’t need to explain. I’ve already found your sister-in-law." Qin Jian appeared, dragging Mu Qiankun, and tossed him onto the ground. "Here’s a gift for you!"
Zhao Dong glanced at him. "What kind of gift is this? Just a drug trafficker?"
"This isn’t any ordinary drug trafficker," Qin Jian explained.
"What do you mean?" Zhao Dong was puzzled.
Qin Jian smirked slightly, raising his hand to grip Mu Qiankun’s jaw, forcing him to look up. "Take a good look—do you recognize this man?"
