Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1735 - 1734: I Leave Her in Your Hands

So, they had no choice but to pick another route.

No matter which path they took, it wouldn’t be an easy one.

There were still outposts along the border, and it was truly difficult to spot them if one wasn’t paying close attention.

However, the outposts shared common features: they were in open areas with clear sightlines to avoid obstructing surveillance and shooting. They were also positioned on higher ground, making them easy to defend but hard to attack.

But for an old hand like Mu Qiankun, a seasoned drug trafficker, these were no longer significant obstacles. He was well-versed in how to bypass border surveillance undetected.

Mu Mian and Lin Sheng listened from inside the house, realizing that their chance had arrived.

This time, they had to seize the opportunity to escape.

After making a series of arrangements, Mu Qiankun carried a large box out of the room. When he opened it, it was filled with pistols, bullets, and short knives.

"These are our tools to stay alive. Take them all!" Mu Qiankun growled lowly, and his dozen or so subordinates stepped up—those taking guns took guns, those taking knives took knives.

If it were before, they wouldn’t have needed this many people to mobilize at once.

Usually, some would go on the mission while others stayed back for support, but this time was different, so they had no other choice.

Once everyone was ready, Mu Qiankun walked over to Lin Sheng and Mu Mian. Staring intently at Lin Sheng, he said, "You two will come with me."

"Understood!" Lin Sheng was prepared.

"Good. Mu Mian, I’m entrusting her to you." Mu Qiankun looked at him, his eyes seemingly brimming with other emotions.

Lin Sheng nodded. "Understood."

"Alright then! Gather your things. Take only what’s necessary, leave the rest behind."

"Got it." Lin Sheng nodded again and extended his hand toward Mu Qiankun. "Give me a gun!"

"Why do you need a gun?" Mu Qiankun frowned.

"To protect Mu Mian!" Lin Sheng met his gaze, speaking with a calm firmness. "Since you’re asking me to protect her, I’ll need a weapon. How do you expect me to protect her without one?"

Mu Qiankun thought for a moment before pulling a heavy pistol from his waist and placing it in Lin Sheng’s hand. "You must always remember—this gun is for protecting Mu Mian! You know damn well where the muzzle should point."

"I know exactly where it should point!" Lin Sheng’s words were deliberate and clear, every syllable resolute.

"Good." Mu Qiankun nodded firmly.

Around nine in the evening, An Hao, Yan Ye, and Dr. Lu walked out of the hospital, breathing in the cool night air, which instantly refreshed them.

"I think Captain Wu’s condition has improved a lot. All his vital signs are starting to stabilize. If this keeps up, we might even be able to head back earlier," Dr. Lu remarked.

"That’s good to hear. But when we head back, do you think we’ll still get to fly?" An Hao asked Yan Ye with a cheeky smile.

"Dream on. When we head back, I think we’d better just behave and take the train," Yan Ye replied, clearly not holding out hope for the same luxurious treatment on their return trip.

"True. Military planes aren’t something you can just hitch a ride on whenever you want," Dr. Lu chuckled, glancing ahead at a wonton shop not far down the road. "Let’s go grab something warm to eat, shall we? I didn’t get my fill at dinner tonight."

"Hospital food can only be so good, right?" Yan Ye called over his shoulder to An Hao, quickening his pace. "Hurry up! Tonight, Dr. Lu’s treating us!"

"Fine! My treat—eat as much as you want!" Dr. Lu laughed good-naturedly.
