"I understand how you feel," Qin Jian said gravely, "but you can’t blame them. These lovely warriors are risking their lives to save people! They must be feeling sad too. However, perspectives differ, and so do decisions. They aim to give more people a chance at life, whereas to you, your family is your whole world."
The man fell silent, it was unclear if he was persuaded or if he simply disagreed.
Qin Jian kept on talking, "But what I want to tell you is, rest assured, we have plenty of personnel for this rescue operation, and there is absolutely no question of having to abandon anyone!"
The man seemed to believe Qin Jian’s words. He nodded vigorously and said, "Thank you!"
"No need to thank me." Qin Jian chatted with him while carrying him up the slope, and the path seemed not as tough as before. He wondered why the man’s house on the mid-hillside was hit by a flood.
Such high terrain— if it were flooded, then wouldn’t the village below have long become an ocean?
When this question came to mind, he asked it.
"In the past, my family lived at the foot of the mountain. After that incident, my grandma became disheartened and insisted on moving us up the mountain to live. Away from water, away from that nightmare. So, we settled on the mid-hillside," the man said.
Unexpectedly, disaster struck this family again. They had avoided the flood but couldn’t escape the earthquake.
"So you just mentioned your wife and children but not your mother or grandmother. How are they?" Qin Jian asked.
